The Lutheran Youth Organization of MLLC will collect for the “Souper Bowl of Caring Think Beyond the Bowl” fundraiser on Feb. 10 and 11. The proceeds will be given to the A.M.E.N. Food Pantry in La Grange.

Offerings may be placed in large soup pots at the back of the sanctuary. Checks or cash are gladly accepted. If you write a check, make it payable to MLLC LYO, memo line-Souper Bowl. If you cannot attend on those dates, checks may be mailed to the church. Donations may also be brought during the week to the church office.

Blood Drive 

A Blood Drive will be held this Sunday, Jan. 28. from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. You may make an appointment by contacting Khardin@giveblood.org or by logging in to your established Digital Donor Account.

It is sponsored by both MLLC and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top.

Carmine Cemetery Association The Carmine Cemetery Association will conduct its annual meeting this Sunday, Jan. 28 at the Mission and Ministry Building of Martin Luther Lutheran Church. It will be held following the morning worship service, around 11 a.m. or a little later.

Girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams host Richards on Jan. 23 at 5 p.m. The teams play at North Zulch on Jan. 26 also at 5 p.m.

Jr. High girls’ and boys’ teams play at McDade on Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.

Carmine VFD 

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting is Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.

Fried Chicken Fundraiser The Carmine Hall is sponsoring a fried chicken fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 18 with carry out only from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Desserts will be available for a donation supporting the scholarship fund.

Call (214) 732-1014 for tickets that are $15. They may also be purchased at Carmine State Bank.

Women of the ELCA 

The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Unit of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met Jan. 11 with 12 members present. They were Leonita Sanders, Joann Ullrich, Diana Wunderlich, Susan Ray, Dianna Gerland, Carol Carmean, Sedalia Ullrich, Joys Baird, Sharon Rhome, Nancy Eilers, Jocie Braun, and Jennifer Tinker.

Leonita Sanders opened the meeting with a devotion from Daily Grace called “All Anew.”

The Mother’s Day offering of $86 was given to Upbring’s New Life Children’s Center in Canyon Lake.

Ingatherings for A.M.E.N. are in February, May, Augugust, and November. Leonita volunteered to take the food to La Grange.

WELCA banquet is scheduled for June 5. The theme will be “Give Me That Old-Time Religion.” Memories are to be part of the program.

Thankoffering service and meal will be on Nov. 10.

Lutheran World Relief ongoing projects are: January-Baby Care Kits; May-Fabric Kits; July-School Kits; and October-Personal Care Kits.

In other business, collection of cancelled postage stamps has been discontinued. Cindy Weidemann has resigned from the Lydia Group. Becky Dunham is in charge of the wall of crosses. Bold Women’s Day will be observed in February and World Day of Prayer in March. Mother’s Day collection for Upbring is May 12.

Also, WELCA will give $300 to LYO for the Souper Bowl of Caring. Diana Wunderlich will continue ordering coffee and Leonita Sanders will purchase the kitchen supplies.

Thanks were given to those who use their $250 Thrivent Action funds for Lutheran World Relief projects.

Installation of officers will be on Jan. 28 during worship.

The 12th annual Triennial Convention is to be held in Des Moines, Iowa in July 2026.

Membership changes included transfers in: Frances “Fritzi” Jones and Nicole Neutzler; Confirmed: none; Transfers out: Patti Hart, Judy Yarborough, and Shelby Vaughn; and deaths: Joyce Stainer, Pat McCanlies, Joy Treude, and Ruth Schoenemann.

Correspondence included thank you notes from the family of Nevilee Marburger for serving at her funeral and from New Life Children’s Center in Canyon Lake, which is part of Upbring, for the donation sent there.

Rebekah Group Report The Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met Jan. 11. It followed the WELCA General Unit Meeting, (listed earlier) of which the same 12 members were present.

The Bible Study was a group effort with the theme, Scripture and Nature: Teachers of Faith; Session 1: Weather: Powerful Force for Change.

The business meeting was called to order by President, Susan Ray.

Thank you notes were received from Pastor Tinker and family for the Christmas gift and the family of Nevilee Marburger for the memorial. The Carmine EDC also sent a card of thanks for the money donated for the City Park picnic table, along with a Carmine Christmas ornament.

Diana Wunderlich reported that Baby Care Kits are being collected during January.

Sedalia Ullrich will get in touch with assisted living centers for parties in 2024.

Joys Baird mentioned the Lenten meals and it was decided to have the meal on March 6, serving soup and sandwiches.

Susan Ray gave the offering meditation.

Happy Birthday was sung for the January birthday celebrants, Jennifer Tinker, LaVerne Kunkel, Thelma Hinze, and Dianna Gerland.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer and the singing of the table prayer.

Hostesses were Sedalia Ullrich and Nancy Eilers.

Meals on Wheels 

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave. in Carmine.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and must be picked up by 11:30 a.m. There are five meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany, is at 6 p.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 10 a.m. Auxiliary officers will be installed. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Recycling Trailer 

The recycling trailer is no longer in Ledbetter. Those residents are asked to go to Carmine, Warrenton, or La Grange.

It is still at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from 1-4 p.m.

Visitors’ Center 

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
