Women’s Equality Day Proclaimed

Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller signed a proclamation designating Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day in Fayette County. Representatives from the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas witnessed the signing. The group represents Fayette, Colorado, Dewitt, Gonzales and Lavaca counties. Aug. 26 marks the date in 1920 when the 19th Ammendment to the United States Constitution was certified, granting women the right to vote.

Mayor Dockery also signed a proclamation designating Aug. 26 as Women’s Equality Day in the City of La Grange. Pictured below (back, from left) are Jeanne Schilling, Becky Schenker, Helen Niesner, Elaine Corum, (seated) Karen Bookout, Mayor Dockery and Pat Johnson.
