    Winchester to Hold Neighbors Night Out Wednesday

The first Neighbors Night Out has been set for May 18 at Zilss Hall. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to attend. Bring a dish to share. Come visit with your neighbors and share fellowship. Neighbors Night Out will be scheduled every month, May through October.

Round Table Book Club

The next book club meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. at Zilss Hall. The next book to be reviewed is “The Power of One” by Bryce Courtenay. Everyone is welcome.

Taste of Winchester

Taste of Winchester, “Branding Our Community” will be held on Sunday, June 5, at 5 p.m. at Zilss Hall. Please investigate your recipe collection and create a tasty treat for community judging. Come meet your neighbors, enjoy their talents and help us BRAND a “Master Chef.”

The Chef category will be for ages 17 and up and will consist of Appetizers/Salad, Main Dish and Dessert. The Sous Chef category will be for ages 9-16 and will include Appetizers and Desserts. Chef in Training will be for ages eight and under and will be Cake Mix Creations (Parents help is encouraged). Prizes will be awarded in all categories.

Young at Heart

Meetings of Young at Heart are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Zilss Hall. Dominoes and cards are played. Please bring a dish to share for a light snack during the afternoon.

Recycling Trailer

The Winchester Recycling trailer is located on the side of Zilss Hall on Memorial Hall Street. Please place your recycling in the appropriate bins. We would appreciate that you make sure that you close the bins so that any trash will remain in the bins and not blow away. Reminder: these bins are not for household garbage. Recycled items only.

Barn Board Quilt Trail

Drive out to Winchester, pick up a map at Murphy’s or Zilss Hall and enjoy viewing the 65 quilt blocks displayed in our area. The trail is self-drive, available at your convenience, and is a great way to spend an afternoon viewing quilt blocks on fences, gates, barns, and houses that can be seen from the road. Winchester Barn Board Quilt Trail maps can be picked up at the Texas Quilt Museum, Casino Hall, the Wendish Museum, quilt stores, and other businesses in Giddings, Smithville, and La Grange.

Zilss Community Hall

Anyone wishing to rent Zilss Hall should contact (512) 434-0292. The hall is following COVID-19 requirements. Rent is very reasonable.

The Little Free Library

The library is always open and has a variety of authors. Space is limited, so please, if you donate a book(s), look through the current selection and take as many as you leave. The Little Free Library is housed under the roof of the patio at Zilss Hall. There is also a bulletin board available on the patio. If you have an event, you would like to advertise, please post.

First United Methodist

The Winchester First United Methodist Church has services on the first and third Sunday of the month at 8:30 a.m. Rev. Patricia Zaiontz-Newcomer is the pastor.

Baptist Church

St. Michael’s Lutheran

The weekly worship service takes place at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning in the sanctuary. Following the worship service, you may gather in the Education Building for Bible Study and Sunday School beginning at 10:15 a.m.. You are welcome to visit for Worship and Bible Study. When you come to the church, please introduce yourself to Pastor Nate, he will be thrilled to meet you.

Recipe from Michelle Weth

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake

Ingredients: 2 pkgs. Chocolate chip cookie dough

2 pkgs., 8 oz. cream cheese

¾ cup of sugar

¾ tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Press 1 pkg. Cookie dough into bottom of 13x9 pan. Cover the entire bottom of pan. In large bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Spread mixture on top of cookie dough. Crumble the remaining package of cookie dough on top of cream cheese mixture. Bake in oven for 30 – 35 minutes. Enjoy warm or cold. Store in refrigerator.
