Wendish Society Scholarship Meal Fundraiser this Sunday
The Wendish Society will have its annual Scholarship Fundraiser Drive-Thru Meal on Sunday, Jan. 28 at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. The menu will include grilled boneless pork steaks, noodles, corn, green beans and pickles, along with a bowl of Wendish Bird Wedding Soup. The cost is $15, pre-sale only by Tuesday, Jan. 16. Advance tickets may be reserved by calling the museum at (979) 366-2441 or email: museum@texaswendish.org. Pick up for this drive-thru meal will be from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit the TWHS Scholarship Program. In 2023 there were thirteen Texas Wendish Heritage Scholarship recipients.
Warda Bunch
The Warda Bunch, supporters of the Lee County Junior Livestock Show exhibitors, will have their organizational/ appreciation luncheon at the Holy Cross picnic grounds on Sunday, Feb. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. The committee will furnish fried chicken and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off
St. Paul Lutheran PTLS Chili Supper, Auction and 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off will be held at the Serbin Picnic Grounds on Sunday, March 3. There will be a meal, bake sale, silent and live auction. The Chili Cookoff will have cash prizes and all proceed for this event benefit future projects and improvements for St. Paul Lutheran School and Early Childhood Center. Youth Group Fundraiser
The Holy Cross Youth Group Fundraiser will be held on Sunday, March 10. This drive-thru meal will include pork steak, noodles, green beans and corn. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at Holy Cross Church Office, La Grange Chevron, First National Bank in Giddings or from any youth group member. Tickets are pre-sale only and this fundraiser will help pay for the annual youth trip and fund other summer activities. Pick up will be from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds 600 FM 1482 in Warda. There will also be a bake sale set up for scrumptious desserts
Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda
Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda has bike riding trails that are open every day from 7 a.m.- 10 p.m. NICA will be held Feb 3-4. Dirty Dozen which is a six or 12 hour mountain bike race for solo riders and relay teams will be held Feb. 10. The beginning of the year means it is time to renew your ranch waiver for the year, you can file online by visiting their website and clicking on the wavier-form link. Holy Cross Game Day
The next Game Day at Holy Cross will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15 from noon 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Lunch is served and bingo, dominoes and other games are enjoyed by all. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Wednesday Night Bible Study
A new Wednesday Night Bible Study has begun at Holy Cross Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. This will cover the book of 2nd Samuel, which discusses the reign of David. They will meet for 5 weeks, taking a short break during the Lenton and Easter season and then finish up after Easter. Everyone is welcome to attend and there is no cost to join. Morning Bible Study
A new midweek morning Bible Study has begun at Holy Cross in Warda each Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. This Bible study will be reading “Has American Christianity Failed?” by Rev. Bryan Wolfmueller. This study is about the beautiful real comfort, joy, peace, freedom, and sure hope of Christ. Everyone is invited. Sewing Circle at Holy Cross
The Sewing Circle at Holy Cross meets every Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon in the old parish hall. They stop for a break at 10 a.m. and enjoy snacks, coffee and visiting with each other. They average 80-100 quilts a year that are shipped to Orphan Grain Train, Lutheran World Relief and various VFD fundraisers etc. You do not have to be a member of the church to join this fun group and no experience is necessary.
Bridge on Teinert Road
On Wednesday, January 15, TxDOT started replacing the bridge on Teinert Road. This will be the small wooden bridge just before Rabbs Creek. For this project it is reported that Teinert Road will be closed at the construction site. This bridge should take two to four months to complete, depending on weather. Recycle Trailer
The recycle trailer is located at the storage units in Warda, off Hwy. 77. If you would like to help out the local Trail Life Group there is an aluminum can recycling bin located at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds. The money from these cans helps the boys in their projects throughout the year.
Holy Cross Services
Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Faith Lutheran High School
Everyone is invited to join the weekly Chapel Worship Services Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Faith Lutheran High School is accepting student registrations. Any student who registers prior to Friday March 8, 2024 will only pay $100 in registration fees.
