Warda Neighbors Night Out Sunday at Holy Cross Picnic Grounds
Neighbors Night Out will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. Everyone in the area is invited to join this fun evening of community and good food. Speakers will include Paul Biles from Tejas Camp and Retreat Center, a representative from Marsch Dog Kennels, Nikki Kueck from FLHS and a representative from the Couples Club. BBQ sandwiches, hot dogs and Blue Bell ice cream will be served. There is no charge to attend this event, tell your friends and neighbors.
TWHS Membership Meeting
The Texas Wendish Heritage Society Membership Meeting will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Wendish Museum in Serbin. Guest will need to register by contacting museum@ texaswendish.org. or call (979) 366-2441. There will be a presentation by Kevin Ziehr on The Wendish and German Settlements near Cisco. They will also vote on board positions, enjoy lunch and have door prizes and games/activities for the kids.
FLHS Octoberfest
Faith Lutheran High School will have their annual Octoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 26. The “Battle of the Vines” and “Battle of the Brew” are back. Plan your brews now. There will be a traditional German meal of brats, kraut, green beans, noodles, bread and coffee cake served from 10:30 a.m.-noon, pick up for the meal is drive through only. Tickets are $15 each (presale only) and are available from the church office or from any student or staff members at FLHS or call (979) 242-2889. Registration for cornhole and 42 domino tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. ($5 per person). The brews and vine judging begins at 3 p.m. Visit the FLHS Facebook page for more information regarding the contest. Sampling of the vines/brews, to vote for the people’s choice award begins at 4 p.m. Kids games and activities, including a bounce house, temporary tattoos, photo backdrop and hayrides will begin at 4 p.m. Costume contest will be judged at 5 p.m. and the live auction beings at 5:30 p.m. There will be a concession stand all afternoon and evening where item like chopped BBQ on bun, loaded pulled pork nachos, hot dogs, warm pretzels with beer cheese as well as other snack and desserts can be purchased. Operation Christmas Child
The Post Oak GEMS group is collecting items for Operation Christmas Child to pack shoeboxes and send to children in need throughout the world. They are accepting washcloths, socks, individually wrapped toothbrushes and solid stick deodorant. Girls in 5th-12th grade are welcome to join in this activity on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. There will be snacks and fellowship as they fill these shoeboxes to share essentials, as well as the love of Jesus, with children in need.
BBQ Chicken To-Go
The South Lee Country Volunteer Fire Department will have BBQ chickens togo only on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Serbin picnic grounds from 10 a.m.-noon. The cost is $12 per chicken, sauce is $3 and sides of noodles, pinto beans and potato salad are $3 each. To order please contact the church office at (979) 3669650 by Monday, Oct. 21. The ladies group will also be holding a bake sale in conjunction with the BBQ fundraiser. There will be lots of wonderful baked goods and all bake sale proceeds will benefit Kurtis Hankemeier and his family while he is in the seminary.
Trunk or Treat
A Trunk or Treat will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. at the Serbin Picnic Grounds.
Central Texas Food Truck The Central Texas Food Truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10-11 a.m. This is a drive-thru, so everyone stays in their cars.
Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda continues their weekly study at 6:30 p.m. in the family room. This is a study on 1st and 2nd Kings. Game Day at Holy Cross The next Game Day at Holy Cross in Warda will be held Friday, Nov. 22 from noon-2 p.m. This is a date change from the usual schedule, just for this month. A light lunch is served, there is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered.
Sewing Circle
The Sewing Circle meets every Thursday in the old parish hall at the Holy Cross Church from 9 a.m.-noon. They average making 80-100 quilts a year and no experience is necessary to join this fun group. Everyone is welcome.
Holy Cross Services
Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.
Reformation will be observed on Sunday, Oct. 27.
The midweek morning Bible Study at Holy Cross in Warda is Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
