Neighbors Night Out in Warda will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22 beginning at 4 p.m. at the picnic grounds. Everyone in the Warda area is invited to attend. This is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors. Planned speakers include Tx-DOT giving an update on the widening of Hwy. 77, information on local oil drilling activity in our area and an update from Craig Moreau on what is next in regards to the void left by the closing of St. Marks Hospital along with a Q & A.

Bob Garrett with the Warda Watch Group will be on hand to answer questions and sign anyone up that would like to join the Watch Group. Game Warden Shaun Bayless of Fayette County will be there with his airboat to give you current updates and answer your hunting questions.

There will also be door prizes including a beautiful handmade quilt from the Quilting Group at Holy Cross. Barbecue-on-a-bun, as well as hot dogs for the kids and Blue Bell Ice Cream will be provided. RSVP’s are appreciated: (979) 242-3333 or holycrosswarda@ gmail.com.

Oktoberfest

Faith Lutheran High School’s Annual Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, New this year will be the Battle of the Vines, in addition to the Battle of the Brew-both are home brew competitions. Submissions need to be made by 10 a.m. You can check out the FLHS Facebook page or contact the school for more information regarding the contest. Returning will be the traditional German meal of brats, noodles, green beans, potato salad, kraut, bread and coffee cake. Meal tickets are now available for $15 each and are pre-sale only, deadline to get tickets is Oct. 19. The meal will be available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. A concession stand will be open all day with hot dogs, warm pretzels, cheese and nuts. Silent auction items will be available for bidding until 1:15 p.m. Children’s games and activities will begin at noon and include bounce house, temporary tattoos, photo backdrop, pumpkin painting, hayride and more. Domino 42 and Cornhole tournaments will begin at 1:30 p.m. Contact the church office or call (979) 242-2889 for tickets.

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat will be held at the Serbin picnic grounds on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. The St. Paul cheerleaders will be selling hot dogs, chips and drinks.

South Lee County VFD South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department will have barbecue chickens and sides at the Serbin picnic grounds on Sunday, Oct. 29. Pick up is from 10 a.m.-noon. Chickens are $12 each, sauce and sides of potato salad, beans and noodles are $3 each. You can call (979) 242-3333 to place your order by Oct. 23. The LWML Ladies will be having a bake sale in conjunction with this event.

Amanda Knox Memorial The Amanda Knox Memorial Scholarship Fund is selling tickets for a pulled pork taco dinner on Monday, Nov. 13. The meal includes barbecue pulled pork, tortillas, beans and coleslaw. Tickets are $15, presale only. Baked goods will be available for a free-will donation. Plates can be picked up at the Warda picnic grounds from 4:306:30 p.m. Only 200 tickets are available. You can contact the church office for tickets at (979) 242-3333. The scholarship is awarded annually to provide full tuition to Faith Lutheran High School to an incoming freshman.

Bluff Creek Ranch

Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda has bike riding trails that are open every day. There are 8.9 miles of well shaded, rolling, single track trails that wind through hardwoods and pines. Tejas Camp and Retreat Center Tejas Camp and Retreat Center is growing with the addition of six cabins. They recently welcomed Field Street Baptist Church who brought over 30 people to help in this latest project as well as several other projects around the campus. Christmas at Tejas will be here soon. Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study Group is doing a study on the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Contact Cyndy Zoch at cyndy.zoch@gmail.com to sign up and receive the materials for this study.

Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Reformation Sunday will be observed at the October 29 worship service.
