VFW Posts, Auxiliaries Hold Joint Session
District 28 Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Posts and Auxiliaries met at the VFW No. 1309 in Smithville on Feb. 5, for the quarterly joint session and then the regular meetings, respectively.
Attending from VFW Post No. 5254 La Grange was Commander Andy Kruppa, Sr. Vice Commander Richard Gray, and Quarter Master Joe Kruppa. Auxiliary members attending were President Marilyn Kothmann, Jr. Vice President Barbara Brauner, Secretary Elizabeth Kallus, and Chaplain Mary Gray.
Amongst the many agenda items for the day was recognition of the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen winners on the district level. Third place winner in Patriot’s Pen was Bree Dooley of Round Top Carmine who had been sponsored by VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange.
The District 28 Auxiliaries had been challenged with a contest to raise funds for the VFW National Home and also a house decorating contest for this event. Winning Auxiliaries in both of these contests had the same results, namely 1st place No. 5254 La Grange, 2nd place No. 10427 Leander, and 3rd place No. 9078 Round Rock. Designing the winning decorated house entry for No. 5254 La Grange was member Mary Gray.
