Vehicle Narrowly Misses Houses After Auto Accident in Fayetteville
On the morning of June 13, a pickup driver was heading South on N. Rusk and ran into a pickup driver hauling a trailer heading West on FM 955 and stopped at the stop sign at FM 955 and N. Rusk. “The driver heading South stated his foot came off the brake and hit the gas, causing him to come through the intersection striking the driver with the trailer who then crashed through the fence,” stated DPS Trooper Berger. “He managed to avoid hitting both houses, landing in the yard next door.” The damaged fence is located at the home of Cade and Wendy Burks. The truck landed in the yard of the home next door owned by June Heimer. No one was hurt.
Flag Day
KJZT Society No. 10 of Fayetteville, or simply KJZT, is a Catholic organization that was founded in Yoakum in 1894. Four representatives officially declared June 14 as National Flag Day. Mayor Stroup signed the proclamation with president Mary Jane Toddi, secretary Rose Rhode, vice president Helen Wied and treasurer Lois Kaspar looking on.
Mary Jane Toddi explained, “We’ve been doing this since 2006. And we want to let everyone know we’re holding a benefit for Lorene Nitschke the weekend of June 26.” Collection jars will be placed at Orsak’s, Joe’s Place, Westside and the Fayetteville Store for freewill donations. Nitschke’s home caught on fire due to lightning in March.
City-Wide Garage Sale
The Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce is hard at work on this year’s Community-Wide Garage Sale. It will be held from 7 a.m. till noon on Saturday, July 9. ARTS Summer Camps
Lots of young, smiling faces are now front and center at ARTS Summer Camps. Over 250 kids have registered to create outdoor sculptures, handmade notebooks, watercolors and more. This summer is seeing the largest teen enrollment to date—close to 60 will be attending camp for four weeks of fun. Allyson Hoffmann’s painting classes are now full. A few seats are left in the quilting, photography and mask making classes, but there are later sessions to check out. Moments in Time Exhibit The exhibit, Moments in
The exhibit, Moments in Time, recently opened at ARTS. The exhibition features works by Linda Bateman, Anne Brennan Vela, and Fayetteville resident Mary Quiros. Come view paintings by three talented watercolorists Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s free to all and runs through July 23.
VFD & EMS Call Report
On May 6, first responders were called to assist Fayette County EMS Medic 3 on W. Market St.
On May 31, Fayettevile VFD was called to assist La Grange VFD on a structure and multiple vehicles on fire at State Hwy. 71 Westbound near Mueller Feed.
