Turkey and Dressing Dinner Sunday in Carmine

The Martin Luther Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA are sponsoring their annual turkey and dressing meal this Sunday, Nov. 10. It is catered by Sandtown Catering. Drive-thru only meals may be picked up from 11:30 a.m.12:30 p.m. at the Mission and Ministry Building.

Advance only tickets are $15 and available at the church office and Carmine State Bank. For more information contact Leonita at (979) 820-1360.

The Thankoffering service begins at 10 a.m. with Denna Hardin as the leader and guest speaker.

Bingo for Seniors 

Bingo in Ledbetter will be held this Sunday, Nov. 10 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ledbetter Community Center.

Seniors (age 60 and older, plus guests) are welcome to enjoy the afternoon. Cost is $5 per card, which covers 10 plus games and prizes.

Chips, snacks and drinks are available for a freewill donation.

A Veteran’s Day program will be held on Monday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the high school in Carmine. Veterans are invited to come at 1:30 p.m. to meet in the library. Everyone is invited to attend.

Round Top-Carmine varsity volleyball team is the district champion. Watch the newspaper for information on play-off games.

Dig Pink Night was held on Oct. 22 to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month. RT-C raised a total of $2,255.05 to donate to the Side-Out Foundation. The students sold shirts, cookies, sponsored cap for the day, and had a coin jar collection. All of this was collected in two days.

They are grateful to have this opportunity to be able to donate to such a good cause.

A Halloween celebration will be held on Oct. 31, which is the end of the second sixweeks grading period. Classes will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.

Students have a holiday and teachers have a professional development day on Nov. 1.

Dumpsters at City Hall 

The city of Carmine will have dumpsters at City Hall on Nov. 15 and 16. On Saturday, the hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Sunday, 8 a.m.-12 noon.

You must be a resident of Carmine with proof of residency and must be able to load and unload it yourself.

Cost for a truck load is $25 and for a trailer load is $50.

Prohibited items include tires, household hazardous waste (such as paint, oil, chemicals, and pesticides), refrigerators, E-waste (such as computers, monitors, and household electronic items with internal components like mercury and other heavy metals).

Mayer Cemetery Association 

The Mayer Cemetery Association will have their annual meeting on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m., at the Round Top Real Estate office at 101 Main St., Round Top.

Reports will be given on cemetery needs such as mowing and upkeep funds, Mayer Cemetery Association Bylaws revisions, the annual election of officers, and other items. All are welcome to attend.

40th Annual Christmas Fest The Carmine Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 40th annual Christmas Fest at the Carmine Hall on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

A beef stew and a hamburger meal will be served from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

RT-C elementary students will present a musical program at 1:30 p.m.

Attractions include Mr. and Mrs. Claus, a Polar Express train ride, vendors, and a craft contest. For vendor information and booth rental, contact Kasey at (979) 533-2904.

For the craft contest, children in grades Pre-K through 8th grade are invited to create a craft using a Christmas theme. The only restrictions are no food and it must be no bigger than 14 in. by 14 in. Height doesn’t matter. Put your name, age, and phone number with the craft. Great prizes will be given for various age groups. For more information including when and where to turn them in, call or text (979) 4511507. Latest date to turn them in is Saturday, Nov. 30 by noon at the Carmine Hall.

The Carmine Lions Club will draw for their prize of a Yeti cooler on wheels loaded with prizes inside.

City Will Read Water Meters The City of Carmine has determined it necessary to establish a requirement that the city assume the responsibility to read all water meters, effective Nov. 1, 2024. The $2 meter reading fee will now be applied to all customers.

In addition, the city is requiring each water customer to maintain the area around his or her water meter. It must be kept clear of vegetation or obstruction of any kind, to allow the city to access the meter.

Penalties may be imposed for those not in compliance. Ordinance #78-2024, regarding these matters, may be reviewed online at cityofcarmine. com or in person at City Hall, 260 Luther Ln., Carmine, TX 78932.

Burn Ban Still in Effect A burn ban remains in effect for Fayette County.

MLLC News 

Worship Committee meets Tuesday at 6 p.m.

AA meets Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School Christmas program practice is Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Women of the ELCA Thankofferng worship service is Sunday at 10 a.m. Denna Hardin will be the guest speaker. Holy Communion will not be served.

Quilting for Lutheran World Relief is Monday at 9 a.m.

Train Depot/Museum The Carmine Chamber of Commerce 40th annual Christmas Fest at the restored Train Depot and Museum is open on the second Friday and Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
