Traffic Stops On the Rise in Schulenburg

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of Aug. 20-26.

Traffic Stop

On Aug. 21, Officer Byron Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for failure to drive in a single lane. Driver had an active warrant for her arrest, but the jail refused to accept her. Driver was issued a citation for no driver’s license and a warning for failure to drive in a single lane.

On Aug. 21, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for defective headlight. Driver received a warning.

On Aug. 21, Krenek stopped a driver at Baumgten and Lyons for disregarding a stop sign. Driver issued a warning.

On Aug. 21, Krenek stopped a driver in the 100 block of N. Kessler for speeding in a school zone. Driver issued a citation.

On Aug. 21, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for unauthorized reproduction, purchase use or sale of temporary tags. Driver received citations for unauthorized use of temporary tag, no insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

On Aug. 21, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for speeding going 90 in a 75. Driver received a citation.

On Aug. 21, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for speeding gong 90 in a 75. Probable cause search conducted, and marijuana residue located and disposed of, driver received a warning.

On Aug. 21, Powe stopped a driver in the 700 block of N. Kessler for driving on the wrong side of the road. Driver received a warning.

On Aug. 22, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for expired registration (12-22) Driver received a citation for no insurance.

On Aug. 22, Powe stopped a driver in the 700 block of N. Kessler for expired registration (4-23) Driver received a warning.

OnAug. 22, Powe Stopped a driver in the 25 block N. Kessler for unauthorized reproduction, purchase, use or sale of temporary tags. Driver arrested.

On Aug. 22, Krennek stopped a vehicle in the 1100 block of Lyons for speeding in a school zone.

On Aug. 22, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for speeding going 87 in a 75. Driver received citations for speeding, driving while license invalid and an unrestrained child. Passenger the registered owner received citations for no insurance, and unauthorized reproduction, purchase, use or sale of temporary tags. On Aug. 23, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for expired registration (3-23) driver received a warning for expired registration.

On Aug. 23, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for displaying the wrong license plates. Driver received citations for displaying wrong license plates.

On Aug. 23, Castilleja stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in school zone. Citation issued.

On Aug. 23, Castilleja stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone. Officer observed the vehicle had an expired registration, the driver was identified, and a licensed driver needed to come and drive the vehicle that also has no insurance. A citation for speeding in a school zone was issued and a warning for expired registration.

On Aug. 25, Krenek stopped a driver in the 100 block of N. Kessler for speeding in a school zone. Driver issued a citation.

On Aug. 25, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for an unregistered motor vehicle. Driver received citation for unregistered motor vehicle and no insurance.

On Aug. 25, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for an expired registration (5-23) Driver received a warning.

On Aug. 25, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for speeding going 96 in a 75. Driver received a citation.

On Aug. 25, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for speeding going 100 in a 75. Driver received a warning for no driver’s license and citations for speeding and no insurance.

On Aug. 25, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for operating a vehicle with no license plate. A warning was issued.

On Aug. 26, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of Kessler for expired registration (7-23) Driver received a warning.

On Aug. 26, Powe stopped a driver in the 700 block of N. Kessler for expired registration (7-23) Driver received a warning.

On Aug. 26, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of E. I-10 for speeding going 86 in a 75. Driver received a warning.

Accident

On Aug. 21, Officer MD Krenek was dispatched to a two vehicle accident in the high school parking lot. Both parties met and provided blue forms.

Agency Assist

On Aug. 21, Krenek was dispatched to the west bound lane of I-10 at mile marker 678 for a vehicle that ran off the interstate down a dry creek. Injuries were reported and DPS Trooper took over, officer Krenek returned to the city.

Animal Complaint

OnAug. 24, Code Enforcement and animal control officer Gina Harden responded to the 400 block of West for four black dogs running loose on the street. Officer Harden and Officer Juan Castilleja transported the dogs back to the owner and advised them this is the third time they have been loose. Owner was informed that the net time this happens a citation will be written, and dogs would be impounded.

Civil Matter

On Aug. 26, Krenek responded the 500 block of Paulus for a civil matter.

Criminal Trespass

Aug 24, Officer Hailee Vincent responded to the 89 block of N. Kessler to Dollar General to issue a criminal trespass on a subject caught stealing on the self-checkout register.

Disturbance

On Aug. 25, Krenek was dispatched to the 300 block of Summit for a disturbance between a male and female. Officer located the individuals and it was determined to be verbal only.
