Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest For Unlawful Possession of A Firearm, Felony Possession
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Wednesday, Feb. 22 around 1 a.m. Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on State Hwy. 71 westbound near Old Lockhart Rd. on a red Camry for a traffic violation.
Meagher made contact with the driver and observed a holster in plain view with no weapon in it and the vehicle was occupied by three males. Meagher asked the driver about a weapon and was advised the weapon was in the driver’s door pouch.
Assisting Meagher was Deputy Seth Nagel who arrived on the scene as consent to search the vehicle was given to Meagher. While searching the vehicle the driver admitted to having marijuana in the trunk. Meagher located two large bags of marijuana in the trunk and two handguns in the vehicle.
Arrested was 22-year-old Romario Nathan Barrett of Austin who was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and felony possession of marijuana. The other occupants were released with the vehicle.
