Tower Gardening Project At Mt. Calvary Preschool
Mt. Calvary has had the wonderful opportunity over the last few months to take part in the traveling Tower Garden Project started by Jenny Janda, her brother Ben Schovajsa and their families. They donated the Tower Garden by Juice Plus+ to the preschool in order that our students could learn about healthy eating and watch as the different types of lettuce and herbs grew right before their eyes. They were able to watch as tiny seeds of bib lettuce, arugula, chard, spinach, kale, mint, cilantro and basil grew from tiny seeds to big plants.
The children have been eating the different types of lettuce and herbs as part of their daily lunch and a tasty lesson with spinach smoothies was enjoyed by all! Mt. Calvary preschoolers also learned about the differences in growing plants in a garden in the ground versus plants being grown in a tower with only water and added nutrients.
