Tejas Camp and Retreat Growing, Adding Cabins
Tejas Camp and Retreat Center is growing with the addition of six cabins that will accommodate up to 60 more summer campers.
They are hosting a Serve Day on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You are invited to come out and join them for a day of serving, giving back and helping to set the stage for Jesus to transform lives. All skill sets and ages are welcome. Projects are flexible to fit each skill and age and could include landscaping, painting, construction, cleanup, office work etc.

FLHS Oktoberfest
Faith Lutheran High School’s Annual Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, New this year will be the Battle of the Vines, in addition to the Battle of the Brew – both are home brew competitions. Submissions need to be made by 10 a.m. You can check out the FLHS Facebook page or contact the school for more information regarding the contest. Returning will be the traditional German meal of brats, noodles, green beans, potato salad, kraut, bread and coffee cake. Meal tickets are now available for $15 each and are pre-sale only, deadline to get tickets is Oct. 19. The meal will be available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. A concession stand will be open all day with hot dogs, warm pretzels, cheese and nuts. Silent auction items will be available for bidding until 1:15 p.m. Children’s games and activities will begin at noon and include bounce house, temporary tattoos, photo backdrop, pumpkin painting, hayride and more. Domino 42 and cornhole tournaments will begin at 1:30 p.m. Contact the church office or call (979) 242-2889 for tickets.
Bluff Creek Blowout
Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda will hold The Bluff Creek Blowout on Oct. 14-15. This is a 24 hour Terra Firma racing event that can be done solo or on a team of up to 10 people. More information on this race, other mountain bike races or trail riding can be found at www.bcrwarda.com.
Game Day at Holy Cross The Game Day at Holy Cross Lutheran Church is returning! The first Game Day will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 from 2-4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This will be a fun afternoon of games, (cards, board games, dominoes, puzzles, etc.) it is a great opportunity to get out and get to know people. There will be refreshments served. Warda Farm Bureau Meeting
The Warda Farm Bureau will have its fall meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the church picnic grounds. Election of officers will be conducted in addition to other business. Members may bring snacks, drinks will be provided.
Neighbors Night Out
Neighbors Night Out in Warda will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22 beginning at 4 p.m. at the picnic grounds. Everyone in the Warda area is invited to attend. Planned speakers include TXDOT, information on local oil drilling and activity and Q & A regarding St. Marks Hospital. South Lee County VFD
South Lee County Volunteer Fire Dept. will have BBQ chickens and sides at the Serbin picnic grounds on Sunday, Oct. 29. Pick up is from 10 a.m.-noon. Chickens are $12 each, sauce and sides of potato salad, beans and noodles are $3 each. Call (979) 242-3333 to place your order by Oct. 23.
Trunk or Treat
Trunk or Treat will be held at the Serbin picnic grounds on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. The St. Paul cheerleaders will be selling hot dogs, chips and drinks.
Knox Memorial Scholarship The Amanda Knox Memorial Scholarship Fund is selling tickets for a pulled pork taco dinner on Monday, Nov. 13.
The meal includes barbecue pulled pork, tortillas, beans and coleslaw. Tickets are $15, presale only. Baked goods will be available for a free-will donation. Plates can be picked up at the Warda picnic grounds from 4:306:30 p.m. Only 200 tickets are available.

Wednesday Night Bible Study The Wednesday Night Bible Study Group is doing a study on the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Contact Cyndy Zoch at cyndy.zoch@gmail.com to sign up and receive the materials for this study.
Holy Cross Services
Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.
Reformation Sunday will be observed at the Oct. 29 worship service.
