    Sweetheart Classic Car Show a Huge Success

There were 71 entries in the Bob Springer Memorial Sweetheart Classic Car Show on Feb. 11. A large crowd came to see the classic, antique, and new vehicles.

C of C Mixer and Awards The Mixer and Awards Night, sponsored by the Carmine Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Friday, Feb. 24 beginning with the social hour from 6-7 p.m. at the Carmine Hall (Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein.) You are welcome to bring snacks and appetizers. The greater Carmine area is invited to attend this annual event in honor of Texas Independence Day. The awards will be presented at 7 p.m., followed by the meal at 7:15 p.m.

New and current chamber members are welcome, and dues may be paid ($25 per couple) at the event.

There will be door prizes and Texas music by Colton.

RT-C School News

Round Top-Carmine varsity girls basketball team’s season came to an end when they were defeated by Moulton in their bidistrict playoff game in Columbus.

Kamrie Stewart exhibited the Reserve Calf Division Champion at the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo.

Spring Break will be March 13-17.

RT-C School Board

A public hearing will be held on Monday, Feb. 27 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Round Top-Carmine Elementary School in Round Top. The purpose of the hearing will be to discuss the District’s Annual Performance Report as required by the Education Code. The regular board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.

Carmine Heritage Committee The next meeting of the Carmine Heritage Committee will be March 1 at 10 a.m. in the museum in the Depot. Discussion topic will be eating establishments – characteristics of the early ones compared with those more recent. Anyone is welcome to join the group and bring photos you may have.

Meals on Wheels

Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels with Combined Community Action meet every Wednesday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church Mission and Ministry Building located at 250 Augsburg Ave., Carmine, TX 78932.

Come early to play dominoes and enjoy the camaraderie. Hours are 9-11:30 a.m.

Food usually arrives about 10 a.m. and is for pick-up only until 11:30 a.m. There are 5 meals in a box along with milk, dessert, and bread. Cost is a donation of $10, which makes it $2 per meal. It is for seniors age 60 and up.

To sign up, come by on any Wednesday morning to fill out the paperwork. For more information, contact Marilyn Wagner at (979) 277-4134.

Carmine VFD

Carmine Volunteer Fire Department regular meeting is Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. Volunteers and interested persons are always welcome to attend.

The department reminds residents to make sure their house numbers are placed where they can be seen from the road, especially at night.

Rebekah Group Meets Ten members were present for the Feb. 9 meeting of the Rebekah Group of Martin Luther Lutheran Church. Members attending were Diana Wunderlich, Carol Carmean, Jocie Braun, Dianna Gerland, Leonita Sanders, Joann Ullrich, Susan Ray, Sedalia Ullrich, Joys Baird, and Nancy Eilers.

The group Bible Study was led by Joys Baird with the theme, The Ten Commandments; Session 2: Reviving the Soul: (Commandments 3 and 4).

The business meeting was called to order by Susan Ray, President.

A thank you note was received from Fayette County Deputy Santa program for the $500 sent them.

Information was received from Lutheran World Relief concerning where quilts and kits were shipped during 2022.

It was reported that the MLLC Women of the ELCA sent $687.35 to the churchwide WELCA for Thankoffering donations.

Quite a few items have been received for Baby Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief. Leonita will count what we have received and report what items we still need.

The quilting group will meet Feb. 13.

Birthday parties will be scheduled for Brenham Nursing and Rehab and Argent Court during 2023.

There will be an ingathering during February for nonperishable food and monetary donations for AMEN, the food pantry in La Grange.

The Rebekah Group will serve the Lenten meal on March 1. It was decided to serve soup and sandwiches with sides.

Leonita Sanders gave the offering meditation.

Happy Birthday was sung for the February birthday celebrants, Leonita Sanders, Vickie Neutzler, and Ora Lee Levien.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer and the singing of the table prayer.

Hostesses were Dianna Gerland and Joann Ullrich.

MLLC News

Ash Wednesday worship with Holy Communion is Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The Waldeck service begins at 5:45 p.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday School is Sunday at 9 a.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing the First Sunday of Lent, is at 10 a.m. The service will be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Men in Mission meet Monday at 6 p.m.

Recycling Trailer

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Accepted are dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean no. 1 and no. 2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans. Attendants are available to help unload.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Visitors’ Center

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
