    Sweeheart Classic Car Show Slated Feb. 11

The “Bob Springer Memorial Sweetheart Classic Car Show” will be held on Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. along Sylvan Street, which is on the south side of Highway 290. This year extra space has been added and the location has been extended to now be between Luther Lane and Hauptstrasse.

RT-C ISD News

The winners of the Round Top-Carmine High School Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art have been announced.

Best of Show winner is Jacob Polasek. Gold Medal winners are Kannyn Goehring and Kennedy Flinn. Special Merit winner is Faith Nance-Kinchen.

RT-C Varsity Girls and Boys basketball teams play at Richards on Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. They host North Zulch on Jan. 27, which will be Homecoming. The girls game begins at 5 and the boys game at 6:15 p.m. Homecoming will be after the boy’s game. Concession stand deals will be available.

Jr. High girls and boys host Calvert Jan. 26 with the first game beginning at 5 p.m. This will be their last game of the season.

A professional development day will be on Jan. 30.

Small School, Big Hearts The RT-C Education Foundation will sponsor their annual fundraiser “Small School, Big Hearts Celebration” on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Round Top Rifle Hall. It will include dinner, catered by the Round Top Rifle Hall Association from 5-6 p.m. There will be a silent auction beginning the week before the event and a live auction at the celebration. There will also be games and a family dance party.

There are event sponsorships from $250 to $1,000 per table. Tickets may be purchased at local schools and banks or online.

Carmine Cemetery Association The Carmine Cemetery Association annual meeting will be held on Sunday, Jan. 29 at approximately 11 a.m., following the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Sunday service. It will be held in the MLLC Mission & Ministry Building.

Carmine VFD

Regular night for the Carmine Volunteer Fire Department is Jan. 26 at 7 p.m.

WELCA News

The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America of Martin Luther Lutheran Church met Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall with 6 members present – Sedalia Ullrich, Leonita Sanders, Diana Wunderlich, Dianna Gerland, Nancy Eilers, and Joys Baird. The group recited the Purpose and Mission Statements.

Leonita Sanders opened the meeting with a devotion on Epiphany Promises.

The minutes and treasurer report of the July 14, 2022 meeting were accepted as read.

There were no nursing home parties or holy communion visits in 2022. It was decided to have them again in 2023, with the first one at Bec’s Blessing in Giddings on Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.

Funeral serving group chairmen met in August, 2022 and made some changes. A group was added for women who would help another group by serving on the day of the funeral and/or providing food.

Salad supper and program, with the theme: Celebrate Children based on the Bible verse, Matthew 19:14, was held June 1 with 43 attending. Diana Wunderlich was coordinator and Nancy Eilers and Mia Williams worked with the music. Diana Wunderlich has an idea of using the theme “Butterflies” for the 2023 Salad supper program, which will be on June 7.

The Thankoffering Service was held Nov. 13 with women participating. Carolyn Bennetsen was the guest speaker with the topic of “Quilts.” Praise Team led music.

Turkey and Dressing meal was served as to-go only from the Mission and Ministry Building. 350 plates were ordered and 331 were served, five of these were complimentary. Ladies baked cookies to go with each plate. Leftovers were served for an Advent meal on Dec. 14. The offering from this was $100 which went to Rebekah Group. This year’s Thankoffering service will be Nov. 12 and Mantey will cater the meal. It will be a drive-through with desserts or cookies given with each plate.

Joys Baird and Nancy Eilers worked on the 2023 Yearbooks and will work on the 2024 Yearbooks also. Joys will continue to hand them out.

For the Nov. 5 Lutheran World Relief shipment, there were 16 Baby Care Kits; 66 Personal Care Kits; 43 School Kits; and 93 Quilts. $20 was given for truck/gas shipping and they were taken to Zionsville by Jason Schroeder. $100 was sent to LWR for shipping costs.

One quilt was donated to the Lutherhill Gala in September.

Quilting continues on the 2nd Monday of the month at 9 a.m.

37 quilts were taken to Camp For All on Jan. 4.

AMEN in-gatherings are in February, May, August, and November. They are delivered to La Grange by Brick Peele.

Kits for Lutheran World Relief are collected during the year: January-baby care kits; Mayfabric kits; July-school kits; and October-personal care kits.

Collection of cancelled postage stamps continues. They are taken to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Warda, where they trim stamps, and sell them with proceeds to Lutheran World Relief.

Cindy Weidemann is leader of the Lydia Group. Becky Dunham is in charge of the wall of crosses.

Memorials for Edwin Arndt were directed to MLLC WELCA.

The group approved to give $300 to the LYO for the Souper Bowl of Caring.

Bold Women’s Day is the 4th Sunday in February and World Day of Prayer is March 3. No information has been received about the Brazos Cluster Spring and Fall meetings. The 12th Triennial Gathering is proposed for the week of Sept. 18 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Mother’s Day Upbring collection is May 14. Last year’s offering was $126.

Diana Wunderlich will continue ordering coffee and Leonita Sanders will purchase the kitchen supplies.

Membership changes included transfer in: Savanna Pratt Lehmann; confirmed: Avery Franklin and Makayla Smith; Transfers out: Boo Goolsby and Sierra Kunkel Richard; and deaths: Shirley Mueller, Verline Schulte, Nevilee Marburger, and Pauline Fischer.

Rebekah Group

The Rebekah Group of MLLC met after the unit meeting on Jan. 12 with seven members present – Jocie Braun, Sedalia Ullrich, Leonita Sanders, Diana Wunderlich, Dianna Gerland, Joys Baird, and Nancy Eilers.

The group Bible Study was led by Dianna Gerland with the theme, The Ten Commandments; Session 1: Dancing the Decalogue (Commandments 1 and 2).

It was noted that the fried pork steak from the Sunday School’s meal on Dec. 11 was used for the Advent meal on Dec. 14.

A thank you note was received from Hospice Brazos Valley for the $500 sent to them.

The quilting group met Jan. 9.

Diana Wunderlich has placed a box in the narthex for baby care kit items, which are being collected during January. Items needed include the following (up to 24 months): lightweight cotton T-shirts; long or short sleeved gowns or sleepers without feet; sweaters, sweatshirts, or jacket with hood or include a baby cap; and socks. Also needed are receiving blankets, cloth diapers, gentle soap, diaper pins or large safety pins; and hand towels, preferably dark colors.

Poinsettias were taken to a nursing home and two assisted living facilities by Sedalia Ullrich and Leonita Sanders for three MLLC members.

A birthday party was arranged and planned for Jan. 25 at Bec’s Blessing in Giddings where LaVerne Kunkel is a resident. Two more will be scheduled during the year.

Nancy gave the offering meditation.

Happy Birthday was sung for the January birthday celebrants, LaVerne Kunkel, Thelma Hinze, and Dianna Gerland.

The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer and the singing of the table prayer.

Hostesses were Sedalia Ullrich and Nancy Eilers.

MLLC News

Confirmation class meets Wednesday from 4:15-6:45 p.m.

Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 6 p.m.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion, observing the Fourth Sunday after Epiphany, is at 10 a.m. The service will be on the mllccarmine.com website. The Rev. David Tinker is the pastor.

Auxiliary Officers will be installed during worship

Recycling Trailer

The recycling trailer is at the Carmine Hall on Thursdays from noon until 4 p.m.

Attendants are available to help unload dry newspapers, telephone books, magazines, cardboard, paper, junk mail, clean #1 and #2 food grade plastics (milk cartons should be separated from other plastic), all colors glass, steel food cans, and aluminum cans.

The trailer is in Ledbetter from 8:30-11 a.m., also on Thursdays, behind the Ledbetter Fireman’s Hall.

Visitors’ Center

Carmine Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center at the restored Train Depot is open on the second and fourth Fridays and Saturdays of the month from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There is a lot to see from the history of Carmine, some of which includes Christmas gifts that were given by businesses in past years.
