Summer Camps Underway in Warda, Youth Enjoy New Course

Local Events

The Warda Local Farm Bureau will have its Annual Family Night on Friday, June 24, starting at 6 p.m. at the Holy Cross Church Picnic Grounds in Warda. Barbecue beef and pork will be served. Member tickets ae $5 each and guest tickets are $10 each. Drinks will be provided. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert.

Summer campers at Camp Lost Pines in Warda are enjoying a new low ropes course that was recently installed. Summer camp runs through the end of June. For more information, contact the camp at (903) 407-1654.

The 30th Anniversary of the Teinert and Winzer Family Reunion was held June 11 at the Warda Picnic Grounds. Relatives traveled from Lubbock, San Angelo, Temple, Hondo, San Antonio, Austin and Fayette County. Kids of all ages enjoyed connecting including recognizing awards for young ninemonth-old Holden Teinert and Glady Teinert, our most special Senior.

Faith Lutheran High School will hold their annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 22. New this year will be “The Battle of The Brew”, a home brew competition. They will have their traditional German meal, domino tournament, cornhole tournament, music, kid’s games and lots of fun. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend this fun event.

Holy Cross Lutheran will have their annual picnic on Sunday, Sept. 4, at the church picnic grounds.

Scholarships

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society (TWHS) appreciates the support given to the scholarship program. All Texas Wendish Heritage Scholarship funds are received through fundraising projects and donations. The TWHS scholarship program is available to students of Wendish descent and encourages students to learn more about their Wendish heritage. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university or trade school for Fall 2022 semester.

The 2022-2023 scholarship applications will be available beginning April 19 online at www. texaswendish.org and on the Texas Wendish Facebook Page. The entire process is online and must be submitted digitally by the deadline of 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 15.

Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Holy Cross News

Bible Study at Holy Cross Lutheran Church will take a break for the summer. Watch for a new study in the fall, contact Cyndy Zoch at cyndy.zoch@gmail.com if you have any questions.

The sewing and quilting group at Holy Cross Lutheran Church meets each Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon, in the old parish hall of the church. Everyone is welcome to join them for a morning of sewing, cutting, laughter, fellowship and of course yummy goodies. You do not need to be a member of Holy Cross to join this fun group. The ladies still collect all cancelled postage stamps, these are trimmed from their envelopes and sold to collectors. These can be dropped off at the church office, or in the designated box in the hallway.

Faith Lutheran High School

Faith Lutheran High School has announced that Summer Camps are back. There are a variety of camps for youth. The ages listed are for grades NEXT school year.

June 20-22-STEM Camp-This class is full.

June 27-29- Art Camp-This class is full.

Aug. 1-2-Archery-This class is full.
