Arts for Rural Texas (ARTS) has concluded another successful semester of Art After School. Students celebrated the culmination of their hard work with the completion of various projects across a wide range of mediums, like Mrs. Brown’s students, whose endeavors resulted in their own unique quilted creations.

Throughout the semester, students learned the art of quilting, an honored tradition and staple of Texas heritage. Under the expert guidance of Mrs. Jeanette Brown and her assistant Mrs. Jan Stephenson, these young quilters brought their visions to life with evety stitch “I am grateful to these girls for embracing this cultural tradition and saving it from becoming a lost art,” explains Tory Farley, ARTS’ Program Director. “I am proud that ARTS is able to offer this experience to the children in our rural communities,” she adds.

The Art After School program provides children grades 1st through 12th with opportunities to explore various art forms, develop their artistic skills, and foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Through hands-on exposure and guidance from experienced artists, musicians, and educators, like Mrs. Brown, students are encouraged to express themselves creatively and gain confidence in their abilities. This free program will resume this fall, with registration opening on August 2. Along with the Art After School program, the organization offers Summer Camps throughout June and July, and the Emerging Artists Youth Art Competition in August.
