Stephanie Shroyer Joins Senior Connections Team

Senior Connections in Schulenburg is going through a lot of changes, with Cindy Villarreal announcing her retirement, so we are asking for your patience. We have hired Stephanie Shroyer, whose title will be Program Director. Stephanie Shroyer has lived in Fayette County since 1976. A good part of her family resides here as well. She has lived in Schulenburg for 12 years. Her background includes working for nonprofits such as Youth and Family Services as a drug prevention educator, Family Crisis Center as a violence prevention educator and at Arts For Rural Texas as Program Director and instructor. Stephanie is known for her nature inspired art, she loves to teach, garden, read and listen to audio books. She looks forward to getting to know the members and learning their interests, too. Her first day on the job is April 1, and we are all looking forward to her injecting her smile and her style into the daily operations at Senior Connections.

We have some dynamic speakers coming in every Monday, a free Medical/Dental screening happening the first weekend in April, right here in Wolters Park, and a great outing to tour the Newman’s Castle in Bellville on Thursday, April 11. With Stephanie Shroyer joining our team, she is bringing in a lot of new ideas and opportunities to help keep our Senior Connections the lively place that it has become. We encourage you to join us, the coffee is good, the communal lunch provided is always good, especially when we eat together, and we really like to go places and see new things, too.

When our community pulls together, everyone benefits. Members of the American Legion Post in Schulenburg have been generously donating tickets to their drivethrough dinner on April 10. Members have enjoyed winning them as they sure have become special prizes in our Bingo games. Janice Grahmann donated a large bag of home décor goods for us to use as we saw fit, and when our members saw them, they immediately became coveted prizes as well.

Christy Bohuslav, from Hometown Wellness in Hallettsville, comes in on the last Monday of each month. She is an LVN and works with Paula Grahmann and Kelly Haas, PAC. Christy comes to present relevant information and services to our members. This month, she focused on Blood Pressure readings and how to take them properly. She stressed regular checks and encouraged folks to get a BP monitor to use at home. Christy told our members that if they brought in their home machines, she would work with them to make sure they got accurate readings from them. She stressed being consistent and how to sit properly to get a good reading, too.

We appreciate her regular appearance at the Center and the information she brings to us as it is very relevant to our members. Next month’s topic is Fall Prevention and she will partner up with Shon Horan, who is the Director of Rehab and a certified Physical Therapist at the Schulenburg Family Fitness & Outpatient Rehab Center. It sure will be an informative session and we invite you to join us, especially if the topic pertains to you, or if you want to know more about the subject, and/or have any questions to ask these medical staff.

There were winners all around us, as we had an impromptu outing to the Lyric Theater in Flatonia. Seven members and Cindy Villarreal braved the rainy Thursday for a drive down Hwy. 90 to see a great movie and then enjoyed a drive down Hwy. 95 into Moulton for a great daily lunch special at Kloesel’s Restaurant. Stefni Kueht, Betty Mulholland, Lillian Vanicek, Betty Stolarski, Lynn Leming, Cathy Besetzny, and Cindy Villarreal enjoyed the good time, good meal, and good company. Our Schuber Van driver, Vicki Woodard, joined us for lunch as well. We can’t wait for the next outing, and we just know, with the days getting warmer, that we will surely have a great time.

We encourage you to look at our monthly calendar. There is always something going on. Pick a day that you would like to come by and spend some time with us at Senior Connections, bring a friend with you, and come eat lunch with us on a Wednesday, and stay for Bingo. You will surely make some new friends and will soon be a part of the group, part of our family, you will be one of us. Come enjoy some good company, some good food, and have a great time getting out of the house. You might even learn something, but we guarantee that you’ll have a good time, for sure. Thank you, again, to everyone who believes in Senior Connections and our mission to serve the elders in our communities. See you at Senior Connections.
