Each year the second full week of April is recognized as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to honor the dedicated men and women who answer 9-1-1 calls on a daily basis and who are the true backbone of the 9-1-1 system nationwide. Fayette County will recognize April 9-15, 2023 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to especially honor the telecommunicators of Fayette County who answer 9-1-1 calls for help in emergency situations and who serve as the critical link between the callers and the emergency response agencies who arrive on the scene. The Fayette County Communications Office located at the Dan R. Beck Justice Center handled over 19,000 emergency and non-emergency 9-1-1 calls last year. Nine Communications Officers currently serve Fayette County: Emergency Communication Officer (ECO) Supervisor Kim Haba (24 years of service), ECO Lisa Blaha (15 years of service), ECO Renee Moreland (10 years of service), ECO Christine Rognerud (3 years of service), ECO Sonya Lehmann (2 years of service), ECO Jackie Moree, (1 year of service), ECO Terrell Klimek, (1 year of service), ECO Samuel Velasquez (1 year of service) and Priscilla Dierschke (7 months of service) .
