La Grange Sites Have a Week Full of Historic Adventures Planned March 11-19

Kreische Brewery and Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host Spring Break on the Bluff, a series of fun, historic family programs Saturday, March 11 to Sunday, March 19. These scheduled activities are included in the price of admission and will facilitate explorations into the beauty and history of the sites.

“Spring is here in full swing, and we’re excited to provide families with activities to enjoy the outdoors while learning about the local history here in Fayette County,” says Sites Educator JennyTownzen. “With a special activity planned every day throughout Spring Break, there will be a little something for everyone of all ages to explore.”

Planned activities range from 19th century cooking and gardening techniques to bookbinding and German storytelling. The sites will revisit popular programs such as smoking sausage in the Kreische smokehouse and making homemade ice cream, while also exploring new programs, including creating early photographic sun prints from cyanotype paper, learning how to embroider designs on a handkerchief, and crafting historic toys. “All of our activities are connected to the bigger picture of life and entertainment from the Kreische family in the late 1800s,” says Townzen. “Many include keepsakes for our visitors to take home that will remind them of the history we celebrate here on the Bluff.”

Spring programs are included with admission to the sites. Admission is free for Friends members and children aged 5 and under, $3 for students and seniors, and $4 for adults.
