Speed Family Reunion June 14 in Muldoon
The annual Speed family reunion will be happening on the Saturday, June 14 at the Muldoon Mercantile in downtown Muldoon. All descendants of Frank, Tom and Bob Speed are invited to come out and touch base with the rest of the family for “the cousin party.”
Come about 10 a.m. and bring some food to share for the pot luck lunch at 11 a.m. There are always some great dishes to sample. Be sure to plan to come and stay a while and catch up with everyone. Family come in from all around and this is your chance to meet some of the cousins.
Memorial Day Storms
Memorial Day weekend ended with a bang. The Muldoon area was hit by a wild thunderstorm on Memorial Day night. Wind, lighting and rain. Most reported around two inches of rain in the wild storm. There were some branches blown down, but no great damage was reported. The rain was a welcome sight to kick summer off. There were a few other little rains that fell following, and all the moisture is welcomed as were the cooler temps.
Veggie Donation
Frank and Kathy Chlumsky have been busy this spring. The Chlumskys made a conscious effort to plant more than they needed. They have gifted the neighbors with some of the delicious bounty, but they had another place to gift in mind when they cultivated their garden this year.
They planted lots and lots of squash, corn, okra and other veggies. This was all with the intentions to donate the excess to the AMEN Pantry to help feed those in need this summer.
This gracious gift of fresh vegetables is a wonderful way to give back to the community in a tangible way. If after you have gifted your neighbors with some of your extras out of your garden, please consider following Frank and Kathy’s lead and donate to the AMEN Pantry.
There are so many in the area who could use a hand up and some delicious fresh vegetables.
Out and About
Our grandson, Ira Ivy, came out to visit James and I over the Memorial Day weekend. He got to check out all the great country stuff and play on the playset. Ira also got to play with his Uncle Bobby Ivy and learn how to build stuff.
Clay and Jennifer Rightmer traveled away for a quick visit with Jennifer’s dad, Will Howard, and his wife Marilyn in Horseshoe Bay.
Graduation
Kathy and Frank Chlumsky recently went to Katy for grandson Hunter Dong’s 5th grade graduation. Hunter will be entering middle school next fall. Kathy and Frank are very proud of the young man Hunter is becoming.
Illness in Area
There are a number in the community who are ill or have had surgery. Be sure to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly ones. There is a respiratory virus making the rounds and has taken out a few in the area. Even though it is summer, viruses are still around.
Muldoon Museum
The first Saturday of the month is fast approaching and that means you have a chance to check out the Muldoon Museum 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The old courthouse is a wonderful step back in time to see all sorts of stuff from Muldoon’s past. If you see the sign out, stop and take a look at some of what was used “back in the day”. There are lots of treasures from the past and gives you a glimpse into what it took to live in what at one time was a booming community.
The Muldoon Museum will not be open in the month of July due the holiday. If you want to find out more about the museum and how to help out, stop by and ask.
