The 74th Speed family reunion was held on Saturday, June 10 at the Muldoon Mercantile. Twenty-two people came out to touch base with other family members. Traveling the greatest distance was James Speed from Oklahoma. Ira Syler was the oldest family member with Ira James Ivy being the youngest. Everyone enjoyed checking out all the family archives that were on display, including copies of the original 1859 deed for the family property. There were also lots of family pictures and historical documents. Plans are already laid for the 75th reunion on the second Saturday in June.

Fourth of July

Be sure to remember, Muldoon will be celebrating the Fourth of July early on July 1. Thinking about being in the parade? The line up begins at 8:30 a.m. by the Baptist Church and the old Kerr House. The parade is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. If you have some fun ideas for something, come join in the fun of participation. Floats, four-wheelers, walkers, flag wavers, trucks and anything to show your patriotism is invited to come out, so start thinking of something to have in the parade. For those who do not wish to participate in the parade can watch as it winds down FM 154 and loops through the park.

Following the parade, there will be an auction at 10:30 a.m. in the park under the pavilion. There is a need for items for the auction to help raise funds to maintain the park. Popular auction items in the past have been veggies, canned goods, antiques and some beautiful handmade items. Unique items might just be the key to bring in some much needed funds to support the park.

Lunch will follow the auction. The lunch will be picnic style. Hot dogs will be provided and everyone is asked to bring side dishes and desserts to share. Bottled water will be provided. Seating might be limited. Bring your own lawn chair to ensure you have a seat.

Out and About

Anne Marie Cherry performed as part of a group of a 100-member orchestra in the annual Bach Summer Festival in Victoria. She stayed with her parents, Martin and Nancy Cherry, and got to reconnect with her brother Marin Cherry, Jr. along with sister-in-law Lora and niece and nephew Caroline and Mitchell Cherry. While in town, Anne Marie also got to attend Caroline’s volleyball game in Smithville and attend church at Flatonia Baptist before flying out to Maryland for another summer gig.

Devon Boehnke and his three daughters Beth Field, April Pospisil and Dana Kulak, went on a “Dad and the Bad Girls” trip. They took off to have some fun in New Mexico and Colorado. They had a blast just driving around, seeing the sights, enjoying the cool air and even took a couple train rides along the way. They took the Durango/ Silverton train up to Silverton and back to Durango before getting in their car and driving the “Million Dollar Highway.” Another day, the group took a ride on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad that traveled in and out of New Mexico and Colorado, winding through some beautiful scenery. It was great father/daughters bonding experience with lots of laughter and a mishap or two that kept the excitement going.

James and Joan Ivy’s grandson, Ira James Ivy, and his mom, Jenny Claire, came in for the Speed family reunion. They got to meet lots of extended family and get to know some of the cousins while down.
