    Situational Awareness Class Offered in Warda

If you’ve read the newspapers or watched the news lately, you know that crime is on the rise. Even in our small communities one can never be too careful or aware of your surroundings and situation. Officer Tammy Jo McCleney will be in Warda on Sunday, Nov. 6 from 2-5 p.m. teaching her popular Situational Awareness Class.

This class has been a huge hit everywhere she teaches it, both men and woman can benefit from learning what to look out for, what to be aware of and how to limit your chances of being a victim of crime. The Outreach Group at Holy Cross is sponsoring this class in the church fellowship hall. There is no charge to attend and light refreshments will be served. The fellowship hall is located at 600 FM 1482. You can call the church office if you have any questions at (979) 242-3333. Get the word out to your friends, neighbors and family, especially as crime tends to increase around the Holidays. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Neighbors Night Out Neighbors Night Out in Warda had a great turnout with almost 90 people attending. TxDOT did a wonderful job answering everyone’s questions regarding the Hwy 77 expansion, which will also widen the area through Warda and put a much needed turning lane in place. Reduced speed limits through the Warda area will be kept at the current limits. Expected completion of the entire project is currently 2027. Bob Garrett with the Warda Watch Group spoke on area safety and communication within the group. Nikki Kueck spoke about the growth that Faith Lutheran High School has experienced since starting in Warda. A delicious meal of BBQ on bun and hot dogs, along with Blue Bell ice cream was enjoyed by all.

Lee County Pumpkin Patch The Lee County Christmas Tree Farm has a Pumpkin Patch in October. They are open Saturdays Oct. 15 and 22 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and on Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 from 1-5 p.m. They are located at 4067 CR 114 in Lincoln. You can contact them at (979) 716-7901 for more information.

FLHS Oktoberfest

Faith Lutheran High School will hold their annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds. New this year will be “The Battle of The Brew,” a home brew competition. Submissions for entry need to be made by 10 a.m. on the day of the event. They will have their traditional German meal of brats, noodles, green beans, potato salad, kraut, bread and coffee cake. The meal will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets are $12 each and are pre-sale only. Talk to a FLHS student, staff, board member or stop by the church office to purchase a ticket. There will be a silent auction beginning at 1:15 p.m. There will be a domino tournament and cornhole tournament beginning at 1:30 p.m. Other activities include music, kid’s games, bounce house, face painting, photo backdrop, pumpkin painting, hayride and more begin at noon. Concession stand selling items like hot dogs, warm pretzels and nuts will be available all day. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend this fun event. South Lee County VFD The South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department will have BBQ chickens and sides at the Serbin Picnic Grounds on Sunday, Oct. 30. Pick up is from 10 a.m.-12 noon. Chickens are $12 each, sauce is $3 and 16 oz. sides of potato salad, pinto beans and noodles are $3 each. Sales are presale and are to-go only. To order call the church office at (979) 242-3333.

Trunk or Treat There will be a Trunk or Treat on Monday, Oct. 31 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Serbin picnic grounds. The St. Paul Lutheran cheerleaders will be selling hot dogs, chips and drinks.

Instrumentalists Wanted Holy Cross Lutheran in Warda is planning for their 150 year Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, April 23, 2023 and are looking for instrumentalists to participate in the celebration. If you are interested, please contact the church office at (979) 242-3333.

Bible Study Group The Bible Study Group at Holy Cross Lutheran in Warda meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending contact Cyndy Zoch at cyndy.zoch@gmail.com.

Holy Cross Services Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Reformation Sunday will be observed at the worship service on Oct. 30.
