Sheriff’s Report: Chicken Killer, Barn Smasher
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of June 2024.
Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of chickens that were killed by a dog at large. The owner of the dog was located and agreed to settle the issue civilly with the owners of the chickens. Naumann took a report of property damage in the Frisch Auf area. The case remains under investigation at this time.
Sgt. Angela Lala conducted an investigation regarding a sex offender who was residing at a location in which they were not registered at. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office and will be presented to a grand jury.
Sgt. Ryan Meagher was dispatched to a convenience store in Flatonia in reference to a subject who made threats to an employee. The subject was located at a different establishment and was arrested for Terroristic Threat. Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on SH-71 near the Bastrop County line. After further investigation, both occupants were arrested on felony charges for Possession of a Firearm by Felon. The passenger received several additional charges including possession of a controlled substance, interference with public duties and tampering with evidence. The passenger also had a full extradition warrant out of Bastrop County.
Deputy Terry Guentert responded to a call of property damage which occurred in the Freyburg area. While en route, Guentert received another call in the same area for a suspicious vehicle with two males laying in the grass near the vehicle. After further investigation, the two males were arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and burglary of a habitation. Guentert also took a report of property damage which occurred near the Hostyn area.
Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop on a silver Honda near the Engle area. After further investigation, syringes and methamphetamine was located inside of the vehicle. The driver and sole occupant was arrested without incident. Williams also stopped another vehicle in the Engle area. After further investigation two subjects were arrested for money laundering.
Deputy James Ulbig responded to an address near Fayetteville in reference to a baler that was on fire. It was determined the fire started due to a bearing that went out and several acres of land were burned. There were no reported injuries and a report was completed.
Deputy Duane Meagher responded to an accident in which a vehicle had crashed through the fence and was left abandoned. Meagher was able to locate the operator of the vehicle. The operator was charged criminally as a result of this incident.
Deputy Jason Fowler responded to a structure fire on Country Way Road in the Smithville area. The fire was extinguished and was believed to be caused by a vehicle that ignited inside of a garage. There were no reported injuries and a report was completed. Fowler responded to a disturbance in the Kirtley area. After further investigation a male subject was arrested for assault causes bodily injury family/household. Fowler also responded to a disturbance just outside the city limits of La Grange in which a subject intentionally drove his vehicle through another person’s barn. The subject was arrested for criminal mischief and public intoxication.
Deputy Jared Michalec responded to a domestic disturbance which occurred in the La Grange area. After further investigation a male subject was arrested for assault causes bodily injury family/ household. Michalec also responded to another domestic disturbance in the West Point area. One male subject was arrested as a result of the incident.
Deputy Wesly Arrison responded to an address on Munke Road in reference to shots fired. After further investigation a male subject was arrested on numerous charges as a result of discharging the firearm. Arrison responded to a disturbance on Bending Road just outside the city limits of La Grange. One subject was arrested for numerous charges including resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer and attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer.
Deputy Ty Roggenkamp responded to a domestic disturbance in a vehicle which was moving. Deputies were finally able to locate the vehicle after it evaded from them. The driver was arrested for several charges including evading arrest/detention w/ vehicle, assault causes bodily injury/family household and unlawful restraint. Roggenkamp conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Schulenburg, Texas. After further investigation a male subject was found to be in possession of methamphetamine on his person. The subject was arrested without incident.
Jail Administrator Holly Smith reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 50 individuals for the month of June. Smith reports that the Jail Staff transported four individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
