Sheriff’s Report
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of March.
Sgt. Ben Wilson checked on a suspicious vehicle in the turnaround on SH-71 near Hatterman. The vehicle was found to be abandoned in the roadway and was deemed a traffic hazard. Contact was unable to be made with the driver in a timely manner at which point the vehicle was impounded.
Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to the Freyburg area in reference to an accident involving a UTV. After further investigation, it was determined the subject was driving too fast and lost control. The male subject was transported to a Hospital by Air Evac. Guentert was also dispatched to a disturbance near Cistern. After further investigation, both parties were separated and no charges were filed.
Deputy Austin Moore conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the West Point area. The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested on several felony narcotics charges and a weapons charge. Moore also stopped a vehicle in the Engle area. Two occupants of the vehicle were arrested on felony narcotics charges. The driver was additionally charged with an additional felony for Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Deputy Duane Meagher conducted a traffic stop in the Schulenburg area for an equipment violation. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of a controlled drug that was not prescribed to her. The driver was arrested and charged with Possession of a Dangerous Drug. Meagher was dispatched to FM 609 just north of Flatonia in reference to damage to property in which a vehicle struck several mailboxes. Meagher was able to locate the driver of the vehicle. The driver and the property owner agreed to settle the issue civilly. Meagher also was dispatched to a residence in the Schulenburg area in reference to a Hospice Inquest. No foul play was evident and the death was ruled that of natural causes due to terminal illness.
Deputy Chase Ceder was dispatched to an address near La Grange in reference to a subject trespassing. The suspect was located. A check of the suspect’s name showed him to have a felony warrant out of Fayette County for Possession of a Controlled Substance. The suspect was arrested and prior to entering the jail, the subject spit out a plastic bag containing methamphetamine. The suspect was additionally charged with two felonies for possession and tampering.
Deputy Holly Smith was dispatched to an address near La Grange in reference to a person trespassing. After further investigation, Smith learned the individual had already been served a trespass warning for that property. The individual was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass. Deputy Smith took a report of what initially was reported as a civil matter but after meeting with the complainant, the issue was determined to be a case of harassment involving a juvenile. A report was completed and Smith provided information to the juvenile’s parents.
Deputy Jared Michalec conducted a traffic stop in the West Point area. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted which yielded 6.6 ounces of marijuana. The female driver was charged with (felony) Possession of Marijuana.
Michalec also took a report of a neighbor dispute in which one subject fired a handgun into the air. The male subject was summoned to court at a later date.
JailAdministrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 56 individuals for the month of March. Sawyer reports that the Jail Staff transported 5 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
