Sheriff’s Report
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of January.
Detective Marc Bennett is currently working nine CPS cases involving crimes against children which occurred in Fayette County. Bennett also took a report of a stolen vehicle from a gas station near La Grange.
Sgt. Ron Naumann responded to a report of harassment between neighbors which occurred in the Fayetteville area. Naumann intervened and assisted in settling the situation.
Sgt. Angela Lala is working on a case involving a sex offender residing in Fayette County who did not report to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office annually as required by the person’s registration requirements. An investigation was completed and a warrant has been issued for the suspect.
Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to yield to Meagher, almost striking him. After further investigation, the driver was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or more. Sgt Meagher along with Deputy Austin Moore responded to a disturbance in the Holman/ Weimar area. It was discovered the disturbance was verbal only and the female subject involved had an active felony warrant out of Colorado County. The female was placed into custody for the warrant.
Deputy A.J Gonzales took a report regarding Identity Theft in which the suspect had been using a resident’s debit card to pay for a vehicle. The case is under further investigation at this time.
Gonzales also spoke with a complainant in regards to forgery. The complainant checked their bank statements and noticed two checks had been cashed twice at different times. The case remains under investigation at this time.
Deputy Herman Olvera was dispatched to I-10 west near mile marker 659 in regards to a motorist assist. Olvera observed the vehicle in the center median. After further investigation, the subject was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for Public Intoxication.
Deputy James Ulbig responded to several reports of runaway juveniles from a facility near Flatonia. CPS was contacted and the children were returned to the facility without issue.
Deputy Duane Meagher responded to an EMS call for an unresponsive male in the Ledbetter area. The male was deceased and an autopsy was ordered. No foul play is suspected. Deputy Meagher also responded to two different death inquests in which the cause of death was determined to be terminal illness (hospice). Meagher also responded to a structure fire involving a residence in the Plum area. The fire was extinguished and there were no reported injuries.
Deputy Joe Gonzales responded to a residence near Hostyn in reference to a disturbance that had occurred. Deputy Gonzales arrived and an investigation was conducted. Both parties were separated and no charges were filed. Gonzales also assisted with runaway juveniles in the Flatonia area.
Deputy Holly Smith was dispatched to Highway 71 just east of La Grange in reference to a traffic accident caused by a domestic dispute. Through further investigation, one subject was arrested for Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Member and Theft. Smith also took a report of phone harassment. Smith was dispatched to an address just outside of Schulenburg in reference to property damage. A report was completed and the case remains under investigation at this time.
Deputy Jared Michalec responded to a disturbance near Winchester involving family members. The parties were separated. The case remains under review at this time. Deputy Michalec conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Ellinger area. After further investigation, Michalec located psilocybin mushrooms which is a controlled substance in the State of Texas. The driver was arrested without incident.
Deputy Seth Nagel took a report for a structure fire which occurred near La Grange. The homeowners were able to extinguish the fire using a water hose and the home only sustained minimal damage.
Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 52 individuals for the month of January and transported 2 individuals to the Texas Department of Corrections Facilities to begin serving time for crimes committed in Fayette County.
