    Sheriff Korenek Reports on February Activity

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of February 2024.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop in the Plum area for an equipment violation. The driver was found to be in possession of cocaine. The driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Meagher overheard a call of a possible kidnapping involving a white van. Meagher was able to locate the vehicle involved and after further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. The driver was arrested. The original incident is being investigated by the La Grange Police Department. Meagher located and arrested a subject on several felony warrants involving sexual abuse of a child. The subject was arrested at a residence in the Schulenburg area. The subject is currently being held in the Fayette County Jail on bond totaling $1,250,000.

Deputy Terry Guentert took a report of a washed check. A subject sent a check to a friend in Florida and when he received the check back it was discovered the name on the check was changed.

Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop in the Flatonia area. After further investigation, the driver was arrested and charged with Money Laundering.

Deputy Herman Olvera took a report of fraud which occurred in the Schulenburg area. The victim reported someone opened a “Cash App” account in her name and was able to access her bank account. The suspect illegally transferred funds into another account. The case remains under investigation at this time.

Deputy James Ulbig responded to a disturbance which occurred at a residence in the La Grange area. The disturbance was deemed verbal only and a Criminal Trespass Warning was issued to a subject who did not reside there. No charges were filed.

Deputy Duane Meagher responded to a residence in the Schulenburg Area for a deceased person. A report was taken and the cause of death was determined to be terminal illness.

Deputy Joe Gonzales responded to an address in the Winchester area in reference to an accidental shooting. After further investigation, a subject had accidentally shot himself in the hand during target practice. The subject was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries. Deputy Gonzales responded to a report of a suicidal subject in the Flatonia area. The subject was evaluated by a mental health professional. Gonzales then transported the subject to a Mental Health Facility for proper treatment.

Deputy Jason Fowler responded to a vehicle fire which occurred in the La Grange area. The La Grange Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported. Fowler responded to a residence in the Round Top area in reference to a deceased person. The cause of death was determined to be terminal illness. Fowler was dispatched to a residence in the Hostyn area in reference to a possible stolen vehicle. After speaking with the caller, it was determined the vehicle was not stolen and the issue was a civil matter. The caller later got his vehicle back from his former employee without incident. No charges were filed.

Deputy Jared Michalec took a report of a burglary which occurred at storage units in the Warrenton area. A report was completed and the case remains under investigation at this time. Michalec also responded to a structure fire in the La Grange area. The La Grange Fire Department responded and contained the fire. A small portable building was found to be a total loss as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be faulty wiring.

Deputy Seth Nagel conducted a traffic stop in the Carmine area. A firearm which was reported stolen was located concealed beneath the vehicle’s carpet. The subject was also found to be a convicted felon and is legally not allowed to possess a firearm. The subject was arrested on numerous charges. The subject was transported to the Fayette County Jail without incident. Nagel took a report of a lost handgun. A report was completed and the gun was entered into the database as missing. The handgun was later located and was then removed from the database.

Deputy Wesly Arrison responded to a disturbance in the Fayetteville area. A male subject was arrested for Felony Family Violence charges and the case has been turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Arrison took a report of trespassing that occurred near the Hostyn area. One subject was removed from the property but the home owner declined to press charges. Arrison responded to a verbal disturbance in the West Point Area. After identifying one of the subjects involved, it was learned the male had an active warrant for his arrest for a Parole Violation. The subject was arrested without incident on the warrant.

Deputy Ty Roggenkamp conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the La Grange area. After further investigation, one male subject was found to be in possession of narcotics. The male was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Jail Administrator Holly Smith reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 46 individuals for the month of February. Smith reports that the Jail Staff transported 1 individual to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
