    Sheriff Korenek Reports on April Activity

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of April.

Sgt. Angela Lala investigated a phone harassment case in the Schulenburg area. The suspect was contacted and advised to make no further contact with the victim, or charges would be filed. Lala also is working a case involving a sex offender failing to comply with registration duties. An investigation has been conducted and the case will be presented to the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office

Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 eastbound at mile marker 677 for a traffic violation. The passenger of the vehicle was found to be in possession of black tar heroin and was arrested. Meagher also stopped a vehicle on US 77 near Eblin St. for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of cocaine and a loaded handgun. The driver was arrested.

Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to Interstate 10 in reference to a reckless driver. Guentert located the vehicle and observed the vehicle failing to maintain a single lane. Guentert conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and after further investigation, the driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Guentert was also dispatched to the Flatonia area in reference to a theft. Guentert made contact with the foreman of an oil company who advised they had a large number of barrels of oil stolen. This case is currently under investigation.

Deputy A.J Gonzales conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10 westbound near mile marker 674 for a traffic violation. The driver and passenger were both arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana. Gonzales was also dispatched to an address near Flatonia in reference to a six-year-old child who had fallen from a zip line. The child was checked out by EMS and was transported to Dell Children’s Hospital for minor injuries.

Deputy Herman Olvera took a report of theft which occurred in the Flatonia area involving stolen Amazon packages. A suspect was caught on video and was able to be identified. Theft charges are pending at this time.

Deputy Austin Moore stopped a vehicle on Interstate 10 westbound mile marker 674. After further investigation, the driver showed to have an active parole violation warrant. Moore also located methamphetamine inside the vehicle as well as under the vehicle using a magnetic lock box. The driver was arrested on the warrant as well as new charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Moore also stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 90 near Schulenburg. The rear seat passenger was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Evidence. The driver was also arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance

Deputy James Ulbig was on patrol near Schulenburg when he observed loose livestock. Ulbig determined the livestock was able to get out due to a damaged fence. Ulbig returned the livestock to the property and was able to locate the owner and notify them of the incident.

Deputy Duane Meagher conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on SH 71 for a traffic violation. The driver had an active warrant for a parole violation out of Austin. The driver was arrested without incident. Meagher was also dispatched to a residence in the West Point area in reference to an assault. After further investigation, a male subject was charged with Assault Family Violence and was arrested.

Detective Kenn Kretz investigated a forgery crime committed against an elderly citizen of Fayette County. Following a thorough investigation, charges were filed and an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect.

Deputy Joe Gonzales overheard a call given to a La Grange Police Department officer in reference to two subjects that entered the T-Mobile Store in La Grange, and committed a theft. Gonzales was given a description of the suspect’s vehicle. Deputy Gonzales located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle near Flatonia on FM 609. Gonzales was able to locate the stolen merchandise and custody of the suspects was turned over to La Grange Police Department. Gonzales also made contact with a Bastrop County Investigator in reference to a vehicle that was stolen in Fayette County. Gonzales took a report and entered the vehicle into NCIC/TCIC as stolen. The vehicle was later recovered by Bastrop County.

Deputy Michael Krenek responded to a theft of oilfield equipment near Fayetteville. A report was taken and the stolen items were entered into TCIC/ NCIC database as stolen. Case is under investigation at this time. Krenek also responded to a disturbance in the Oak Thickett Park located near Fayetteville. As a result, one male subject was arrested for Public Intoxication.

Deputy Holly Smith contacted a complainant in reference to a stolen vehicle. After speaking with the complainant it was determined the vehicle was not stolen and the issue at hand was a civil matter. Smith was also dispatched to the Muldoon area in reference to a firearm being discharged from the side of the road. Smith checked the area but was unable to locate anything. Smith was later dispatched to a vehicle crash in the same area later that night. After further investigation, Smith determined this vehicle was the suspect vehicle from the earlier shots fire call and identified the driver. Case is under further investigation at this time.

Deputy Jared Michalec stopped a vehicle on SH 71 near Makinson Rd. for a traffic violation. The vehicle initially pulled over but then sped off and evaded from Michalec. After a short pursuit, the vehicle crashed into the ditch and the driver fled on foot. Michalec was able to apprehend the driver a short distance from the vehicle. Inside the vehicle Michalec located approximately 13.5 pounds of marijuana and five pounds of cocaine. The driver was arrested without further incident. Michalec also stopped a vehicle On State Hwy. 71 near Makinson Rd. for a traffic violation. The driver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested.

Deputy Seth Nagel took a report of a structure fire that occurred in the Ledbetter area. No injuries were reported and the house was a total loss. Nagel also stopped a vehicle on State Hwy. 71 near Old Lockhart Rd. After further investigation, the passenger was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Deputy Orlando Buitron stopped a vehicle on State Hwy. 71 near North Kirtley Rd. for a traffic violation. After further investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of THC products and psilocybin mushrooms and was arrested. Buitron also stopped a vehicle on State Hwy. 71 near Makinson Rd. for a traffic violation. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated with Open Container.

Deputy Lee Phillips took a report of a burglary that occurred at an Antiques store in the Carmine area. A report was taken and the case is currently under investigation. Phillips was dispatched to an address in the Warda Area in reference to a vehicle fire. A report was taken. Phillips also took a report of theft which occurred in the Round Top area. The victim was later reimbursed and no charges are being filed at this time.

Deputy Dustin Kieshnick stopped a vehicle on IH-10 near Flatonia for a violation of law. After further investigation, Kieshnick located approximately one kilogram of methamphetamine inside of the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were arrested.

Kieshnick also stopped a vehicle on IH-10 near Engle for a traffic violation. The vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle then came to a stop and several occupants fled on foot. Kieshnick approached the vehicle as more occupants were still exiting and was able to secure nine total occupants still in the vehicle.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 72 individuals for the month of April.
