Beth Rushing is officially the City Secretary for the City of Fayetteville. City Council approved Kathy Valtasaros as a new board member of the Fayetteville Economic Development Corporation. Valtasaros is co-owner of the Wine Bar at the Grand Fayette Hotel.

Carolyn Heinsohn has been approved by City Council as a new member of the Fayetteville Historic Preservation Board. Heinsohn has extensive knowledge of the history of Fayetteville and the founding families that played a significant role in its development. The board is now comprised of six members: Lisa Simpson, Pat Johnson, Jerry Brown, Connie Havel, Judy Kurtz and Heinsohn.

Train Accident

Last Saturday, the train was held up for approximately four hours due to an accident on the tracks. No one was injured.

ArtWalk

ArtWalk, one of ARTS biggest events of the year, will be held on our historic square May 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event showcases fine art, jewelry and sculpture from over 50 Texan artists. Enjoy food trucks, a children’s booth, wine tasting and load up on all the live music.

Music will be performed on the square free of charge beginning Friday, May 6 at 4:30 p.m. with a performance by Southern Light. Mike Stroup will be joining in. It will be followed by Sophia Johnson at 6 p.m.

The music starts back up at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 7 featuring shows by Ellen Melissa Story and Jack “The Sax” Carr. At 6 p.m. Mike Stroup will open for the one-and-only Shake Russell who starts strumming at 7 a.m. On Sunday, Sean Orr will kick things off at 10 a.m., with Annie Rost and Mike Stroup ending the magic at 1 p.m. This is not an event to be missed. Easter BBQ Recap

The Fayetteville/Ellinger KCs are very grateful for the support they received for their Easter BBQ. It was one of their biggest BBQs of the year, with 380 chickens, 225 sausages and 82 racks of ribs sold. Their next BBQ will be held on Mother’s Day, May 8.

The KCs, a Catholic organization, support numerous local Catholic charities, among others. There are approximately 140 members. New members are always welcome. Contact the Grand Knight at (832) 260-3631 if interested in joining.

FISD

Construction on Fayetteville ISD’s Red Building is coming along smoothly. Staff Appreciation Day is the first week of May.
