Seniors Enjoy Movie at Lyric Theater
Jennifer Moring, bank manager at the Fayette Savings Bank in Weimar, and one of our esteemed board members, was the Lunch & Learn speaker on Monday, Jan. 9 and she was so personable that everyone really enjoyed her presentation. She serves on the Weimar Chamber of Commerce board and is an active Weimar Rotary member, as well as having a full family life.
There were 13 happy campers who attended the Movie Day Trip to Flatonia on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Terry Ehler, owner of the Lyric Theater in Flatonia, always accommodates requests for a matinee movie. This time, we asked her what she had that was first-run, and she made a great recommendation.
JoNell Vacek, Alice Fajkus, Cynthia Myer, Judy Klesel, Irene Janda, Carolyn Moore, Helen Steinhauser, Betty Mulholland, Misty Schindler, Betty Miksch, Betty Stolarski and two new members whose names I do not know yet, but who chose to join for lunch and a movie, all had a great time and highly recommend the movie, “A Taste of Paradise” with Julia Roberts and George Clooney.
The group also highly recommends Darlin’s Diner in Flatonia for a great place to eat with good food and great prices.
The Creative Arts Program kicks off with a collaborative partnership at the Schulenburg Arts Campus on Friday, Jan. 20. We will be meeting there, at their facility, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon each Friday, for a 12-week “Seniors Artful Fridays.”
Next up on the list of outings is another innovative event to attend. “The Great Gatsby” is back for a special showing in Columbus on Saturday, Feb. 11. A gracious donor has stepped up and provided a sponsorship for this event, the sponsor will pay for half of your $50 ticket, which includes an Italian dinner and the show.
For those who cannot drive at night, the center also has some folks who have agreed to pick up and drop off at your home so we can all get there and back home safely. More information coming on this event. If you are interested in buying a ticket for $25, let Cindy Villarreal know by calling (979) 7433227. Tickets are selling fast.
The Senior Connnections center is currently open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, with the ARTS programs starting on Fridays, from 10 to noon, on Jan. 20. Seniors play dominoes, visit socially with each other, share a communal meal then enjoy informational speakers who come in on Mondays and play some raucous bingo on Wednesday, right after lunch at noon.
The center appreciates everyone’s support and encouragement. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for active seniors, and with everyone’s continued support, we can all provide for our elders and keep them as independent as possible.
