Seniors Enjoy Games, Lunch Sponsored By Hahn Construction
Thursday, June 15, St. John’s Catholic Church in Fayetteville hosted one of its regular senior citizens gatherings for area locals. But, it wasn’t a typical gathering for them. Jason Hahn, a Fayetteville local, sponsored lunch for everyone attending the event that day.
“I just love meeting with the older people and giving back to the community,” said Hahn. “When COVID hit, it was pretty hard, but during that time, I offered gift certificates to them, just so I could continue giving back to them. But, it’s better seeing them like this (in person).”
Hahn’s company, Hahn Construction, sponsors lunches from Orsak’s for the seniors twice a year; once in June and once in December. The tradition of providing lunches began in 2013, when Hahn and his grandmother, who helped organize the gatherings, fed everyone a meal in December. Hahn’s grandmother has since passed, but he continues to support the group as a way to remember and honor her.
After everyone had their fill of the delicious food and drink, the games began. People got into groups and chose what domino or card game to play. Soon enough, laughter filled the air and playful banter broke out.
“When you step back and look at everyone enjoying themselves, it really makes your heart swell,” said Gail Marino, a member of the church who currently helps organize the gatherings.
According to Marino, though some of the attendees of the day’s gatherings were Catholic, many were not. Events like this one prove that with some good food and laughs, anyone can enjoy one another’s presence, regardless of their background.
