Senior Connections Welcomes March With Exciting Activities
As we step into March, Senior Connections, the vibrant senior activities center with satellites in Flatonia and Weimar, is gearing up for a month filled with fun, friendship, and the welcoming warmth of spring. Mother Nature may be playing tricks on us with her unpredictable weather, but that won’t dampen our spirits.
Kicking off the month on Monday, March 3, doors in Schulenburg will swing open at 9 a.m. ready to embrace our dedicated domino players, puzzle assemblers, and card players. They’ll get many rounds in before we serve a delicious home-cooked pot of chili accompanied by cornbread and Fritos for lunch. One of our talented members will surely bring a delightful home-baked dessert to sweeten the meal. After enjoying our culinary delights, we will host our Senior Spotlight, featuring the inspiring life story of Peggy Hiatt, a beloved member and avid domino and bingo player. To round off the day, Peyton Steel from Amedisys Hospice will call bingo, marking her first time at the mic.
On Tuesday, March 4, we’ll head to Weimar at the First United Methodist Church, where the welcoming Fellowship Hall, with its stained glass windows, will provide a glowing atmosphere for our programs. Celebrating Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras on this day, we’ll stick to our schedule, opening at 9 a.m. While some of our friends might arrive a bit later, our dedicated domino enthusiasts will be on hand bright and early to keep the games lively. Lunch will feature delicious chicken spaghetti from Koopmann Catering, served alongside spinach salad, garlic bread, and a delectable dessert. Garren Bivens from Bivens Family Insurance will share insights about his new business and all it offers the townspeople. The afternoon is not complete without another round of bingo, this time called by Sandy Anderson from True Care Living in Columbus.
Back in Schulenburg on March 5, after a busy morning of games, coffee, and treats, we will savor fried chicken from Oak Ridge Smokehouse, accompanied by buttered potatoes, fresh salad, and a dessert crafted by one of our talented members. Following the meal, bingo action will resume, led by an enthusiastic volunteer from Fayette Savings Bank. Wednesdays are always our most popular bingo days. We always need prizes for our bingo winners— on a busy Wednesday, at least 60 cherished items, including everyday essentials like pa-per goods, toiletries, and tasty treats, will find new homes. That is a lot of prizes. If you’d like to donate, please feel free to reach out.
