Senior Connections Receives Funding, New Herb Program Begins February 16

Second Chance Emporium is such as asset to the community. On Tuesday, Jan. 31, Senior Connections was excited to receive funding from Second Chance Emporium to help with the technology needs at the center. This much needed upgrade keeps the center right in line with its strategic plan goals and objectives.

It is much better having a plan to work from, working the plan, and completing goals as we go. Second Chance was instrumental in being able to hire a local, respected facilitator to see the group through from start to finish, and to have a professionally created Strategic Plan. Senior connections appreciates Second Chance Emporium for their support and for believing in its mission statement to enhance the quality of lives of the seniors being served.

The center is announcing another new program being offered at Senior Connections, based on requests and results. Cindy Meredith, owner of The Herb Cottage, has periodically come in as a Lunch & Learn guest speaker to inform and educate on the benefits of herbs and how to use them. Starting Feb. 16, she will be offering a new program named: “Living Well with Herbs,” where she will discuss different aspects of herbs, their uses, how to successfully grow them, using your kitchen herbs for good health, simple herbal recipes, teas, and more.

Starting Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to noon, Cindy Meredith will hold her class at the Senior Connections center, and then continue every third Thursday of each month. There is no fee for the program, only that you have an inquisitive mind and a cooperative spirit. Come learn with us, and meet some new friends who have similar interests.

The center is currently open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Senior Connections is in Wolters Park in Schulenburg, right next to the Pavilion. at 1111 Bohlmann St. in Schulenburg. Members play dominoes, visit socially with each other, and share a communal meal and enjoy informational speakers on Mondays and play some raucous Bingo on Wednesday, right after lunch, at 12 noon. Call (979) 743-3227 if you need more information. Chek out the monthly calendar online at www.srconnections. org. If you know someone who would benefit from being around their friends and neighbors, please help pass the word so others know what is going on and where to go.
