Our New Year has started with a bang and members couldn’t be happier. They are going places and mind you, we don’t go too far, but going out, in a group, with your friends is priceless. Usually, for the price of their lunch, our small groups will go to lunch and a movie in Flatonia, or will tour a venue such as a museum or historic site, then have lunch before heading back.

Senior Connections was blessed on Jan. 26, with a group of Fayette Savings Bank (FSB) managers, who came to the center to present Senior Connections with a contribution of $500. Jennifer Moring, bank manager at Fayette Savings Bank in Weimar, is also one of our Board Members and initiated the process. Jennifer was accompanied by Cheryl Brossmann, bank manager at FSB in Schulenburg and who leads the FSB Bingo Callers at the Center once a month, and Jyl Stavinha, bank manager in Flatonia.

Senior Connections appreciates Fayette Savings Bank for the many ways it supports the center. Members really appreciate this contribution as it will allow to provide 50 nutritious meals, and start planning the next outing.Your gift helps make this possible and brings smiles to member’s faces.

On Friday, Jan. 17, some members met at the ARTS Schulenburg Studio and enjoyed the Mosiac Project that they are all working on. How awesome it is to see someone’s face when they see the blank shape of plywood in front of them and the piles of stones and tiles to choose from. It is almost too much for one to take in. Stephanie Shroyer, ARTS Instructor, calms everyone down and guides members to look at the shape and to see swirls or trails and to “see” what they would like their artwork to be when they finish it.

All are realizing that God blessed each one of them with talents and strengths, and some of them, they don’t even know they have. There is creativity in that classroom and everyone of the 12 pieces of work are unique and personal to the person who created it. It is empowering to create something.

The center is currently open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Senior Connections is located in Wolters Park in Schulenburg, right next to the Pavilion. The address is 1111 Bohlmann St. in Schulenburg. Members play dominoes, visit socially with each other, share a communal meal and enjoy the informational speakers who come in on Mondays and play some raucous Bingo on Wednesday, right after lunch, at noon. The center number is (979) 743-3227 if you need more information. If you know someone who would benefit from being around their friends and neighbors, then please help pass the word so others know what is going on and where to go.
