Join Senior Connections at any of our locations, where membership is free, the food is fine, and the friendships are fabulous.

On Monday, Memorial Day, May 25, we will be closed in honor of our veterans who lost their lives while serving their country and protecting us.

On Tuesday, May 26, join at Flatonia Methodist Church, 403 E. North Main St. Doors open at 9 a.m. for members to come and enjoy a morning of coffee conversation and bring stimulating games. At 11:15, we prepare for our delicious home-cooked meal by sharing announcements and prayer concerns, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and blessing the meal. At 11:30, we line up to indulge in baked city, made by the loving hands of Amanda Kridel, with our house salad and garlic bread, whose scent will fill the air and make your mouth water. Our fabulous members bring desserts. For our Lunch and Learn program, we will have Rusti Beckmann join. He is a board member for Senior Connections and wants to share some of his work experience with you. At 12:30 p.m., we play bingo, with Flatonia Healthcare Center providing the caller.

On Wednesday, May 27, we are in Schulenburg at 1111 Bohlmann Avenue in Walters Park. Doors open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., and on Wednesdays, we start getting ready for the big lunch crowd a little earlier. And this meal is sure to bring a crowd, so get there by 11 a.m. to secure a cold beverage and a good seat. We will start announcements at 11:10 to line up for the meal by 11:20 a.m. Connie Koopmann and Koopmann Catering provide the mouth-watering meal, which includes roast beef with brown gravy. Devoted volunteers will prepare buttered potatoes and salad, and our members will bring desserts. We have a sign-up sheet at all our locations for members to bring desserts. This is a nice way for members to give back to our organization. And you don’t have to bake. You can even go to the store or the bakery and pick something up to share with your friends.

At 12 p.m., Deannie Crimm is in the house from Schulenburg Family Fitness, and you can be sure that there will be a lot of good vibes and energy going on.

On May 29, Artful Friday continues at Arts for Rural Texas at 1206 S. Lyons Ave. It is the last Friday of the month, which means it’s the last class for this session. Jaime Janda will wrap up her Pen and Ink class, and I will finish up the eco-printing workshop I have been teaching. They will learn some book-binding techniques with the papers they have created.

We will be moving into the Senior Connections Center for June and July, as Arts for Rural Texas holds its summer art camps during those months. Coming next month, Sheryl Tumis, a valued volunteer, will teach crochet classes, and Jaime Janda will introduce new painting techniques to the students. They will be painting without paint brushes. You must be registered for these classes; you can do so by calling the center at (979) 7433227. You can call to find out which classes have available spots for the rest of the year.

The next adventure will be on June 4 to visit Flatonia. We will eat lunch at Darlin’s Diner and then walk down to the Lyric movie theater to see The Bucket List. Ice cream at the ice cream parlor next door will complete the day. We will be carpooling for this event, and you can sign up this week. Wednesday, May 27 is the last day to sign up, so we can work out the transportation plan.
