Senior Connections Hosting Membership Drive July 22
Senior Connections is starting the week of July 22 with a really fun event. Members are looking forward to having the Fender Bender Band entertain us once again. What makes it more exciting is it’s an Ice Cream Social. This membership drive event will take place at the KC Hall in Schulenburg from 9 a.m. 2 p.m. So, if you have ever been curious about our activities and would like to come check us out, this is a perfect time.
We will start our day at the K C Hall at 405 South Street in Schulenburg like any other day. Dominoes, cards, a puzzle and more games will be available for all to play from 9 to 11:15 a.m. Coffee will be served through out the morning. Lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs and all the summer sides will be served at 11:30. We thank H-E-B for making our meal possible. And for the ice cream that will be served after the meal. Then the band will take the stage and entertain us all. Weimar members and future Flatonia members please join us.
We started something new recently. We are playing bingo following our Lunch and Learn speakers on Mondays. Members, volunteers or staff will take turns calling.
Speaking of bingo, on Wednesday, July 24, Deanne Crim and Schulenburg Family Fitness and Rehabilitation will join us and call the bingo game. Oakridge Smoke House will cook our meal that day of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli salad and desserts will be brought by our members.
The Senior Connections Board meets on Thursday, and last but not least our Artful Friday continues from 10 a.m. to noon with a light lunch after class. Our elder artists are painting a floral wreath with magnolia blossoms. Georgia Pohl shares her many talents with us. For those not up to painting, we continue to work on our costume jewelry Christmas trees, an ongoing project. If you have any old costume jewelry laying around, we could use some. It’s amazing how much it takes for one tree. Some of these trees will be available for sale in the holiday markets we will attend.
We would like to extend our gratitude for many wonderful things happening at Senior Connections. First to Donnie Polk with Schulenburg Festival Association for funding the new floor in the bathroom installed by Linke Flooring of La Grange. They also had a handicap threshold installed in the entrance door, making it so much easier for our members who use walkers to gain entrance. Brandon Wagner did the installation. This is a huge improvement to our building. We even installed a door bell so members with walkers or have their hands full can ring to let us know they are needing help.
Susan and Mike McCathern with Celebrations and Bistro 108 made a very kind donation. They have closed their brick and mortar business in La Grange and graciously donated boxes and boxes of pantry food items to us. This will help to complete many meals.
After the Dubina Picnic they had extra food. And guess who was lucky enough to receive it? Members indulged in fried chicken, buttered potatoes and green beans. And there is enough for a few pot pies in our future too. Thank you so much for thinking of us.
All of these wonderful acts of kindness add to the positive energy flowing through the center. With our expansions into Weimar and Flatonia, donations of any kind really make a difference. Each location needs games, bingo prizes and a variety of other necessities. We keep track of every in-kind donation, and it adds up. Senior Connections is not funded with government money. The center is a community-based nonprofit relying on grants, fundraisers and donations from the community to make our programs possible. As you can see, we are dedicated to serving the elderly in Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca counties. Established in 2015 and growing strong.
