Senior Connections Expands Into Weimar, Flatonia Expansion Next

Senior Connections kicked off our expansion satellite in Weimar last week. It was so nice to see so many new faces, members of the community, and great new volunteers come together.

A concrete walker and wheelchair ramp was installed at the Methodist Church, the location for Senior Connections in Weimar, to accommodate those needing it. Thanks to contractor Jason Class and Amanda Kridel, Senior Connections Executive Director, and the First United Church for making that happen. This will make access to the fellowship hall easy for everyone.

We have secured our location to expand into Flatonia starting in August. The Flatonia Methodist Church has opened their doors and welcomes Senior Connections to provide our program to existing and new members on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. So start spreading the word for anyone 55 and up that might benefit from our meal based day of fun, food and learning. If you and your business would like to volunteer as bingo callers, Lunch And Learn Speakers, or help with serving coffee and food, please let me know. Stephanie Shroyer Program Director at (979) 702-1246. Financial donations are appreciated for food, bingo prizes, our trips, and operations. Our organization is not funded by government support. We survive and thrive from grants written by Amanda Kridel, our Executive Director, our big fundraiser Gala at New Year’s, and through donations from individuals and businesses. Thank you to all of these for helping make our Senior Connections the place to be.

The week of July 8, Monday we welcome George Clarke with Bubela Real Estate for Lunch and Learn. He will be talking about the greatest generational shift and how it will impact our lives and legacies. Lunch will be prepared by Senior Connections.

Georgia Pohl, from Halletsville, will be our art instructor for the month of July. We look forward to learning more on acrylic painting as students work on canvas creating a grapevine wreath with flowers adorning it. There will be alternative projects for those participants who are not comfortable with painting. We are making jewelry Christmas trees. So if you have any junk jewelry, vintage or costume jewelry hanging around, we would love the donation. It’s an on going project. We don’t want to detract from Georgias class. It will be available through out the year. August will be the last month for art to be held at the center.

Looking farther ahead, our trip for the month is set for July 18 and it will be jam-packed. Space is limited, so get your name on the list quick. We will visit Fluent Medical Marijuana facility first, then to the Lyric Theater for a private showing of The Family Stone. Following the movie we will have lunch at Majek Winery, with tours available to those who are interested.
