Senior Connections Continues To Grow
After a morning of games and a delicious meal of hamburger steak, potatoes, salad and a dessert, Senior Connections will host Shirley Rothbauer with Shirley’s Lucky Tours for the Monday, Aug. 5 Lunch and Learn. After her presentation members will play bingo.
On Tuesday, Aug. 6 you can find Senior Connections in Weimar at the First United Methodist Church. Join in the fellowship hall from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. In the morning, Tiffany with Schulenburg Regency will be coming by to check blood pressures, if you wish, while you play your games. Laurie Kensinki will drop in to talk about meals on wheels.
Membership is free and the meals are free, however, we do have a donation box if anyone is inclined to make a donation. Please look for the membership forms and fill one out while you are there.
The Lunch and Learn speaker is Jeanette Johnson and she will be presenting the basics of Medicare. So, for those of you who are about to turn 65 and feel lost on the many decisions that need to be made for your future, this is your opportunity to get some unbiased information. She will also talk about, changing your policies once you’re already signed up. Following her presentation, bingo will be called by Erica Furnace of Stevens Nursing Center of Halletsville.
Wednesday, Aug. 7, in Schulenburg will be a bit different. Senior Connections will have some guest volunteers from Stevens Nursing Center of Hallettsville. They will be bringing with them a really big gift. With the two expansions into Weimar and Flatonia, Senior Connections needs more freezer space for prepared meals. And this kind and amazing organization is going to make that happen.
On Friday Aug. 9, art class will have a special guest giving a presentation on her art. Bobbie Shapiro from Eagle Lake is a very talented textile artist. Claire Lewis, teacher for the month, is inspired by her work. She has invited Bobbie to come tell about her art, techniques and background.
Art classes are open to any senior 55 and up. Being a member of Senior Connections is not a requirement. If this interests you, come from 10 a.m. - noon. A light lunch will be served following the presentation and class. Claire will be teaching slow stitching and textile art.
Senior Connections in Schulenburg is a communitybased nonprofit relying on grants, fundraisers and donations from the community to make programs possible dedicated to serving the elderly in Fayette, Colorado and Lavaca counties.
