Senior Connections Center Preparing For More Day Trips
With increased membership and participation, we will be providing more meals to attract and retain our members. There will be an increase in costs to provide additional programs and meals for more members, so we appreciate all the support we can get. Sometimes, we can cover all costs, but other times, we must ask our members to assist with the cost of transportation, tickets, and to cover the cost of their meals when we are on outings.
That’s what our New Year’s Heritage Ball is all about. We also have a Dignity Campaign where the public can contribute to help us meet specific needs, such as transportation for outings, fees, tickets, meals, to improve the facility we occupy, and to provide the needed supplies and materials for hands-on programs and activities. These campaigns, grants, and events are our attempt to meet our budget goals and continue the level of service we are all used to.
Our members pay no membership fee currently, but there are costs associated with the services that are provided. We do ask for a program donation, each day that members attend, when they sign in for the day, and whatever they can give is acceptable. These donations assist with the meal service, to help offset the costs of the catered meal that provided and disposable supplies. There are lots of moving parts to the operation of a Senior Connections Center, and we want to present a well-rounded program, so we will continue to have fundraising events, our grant writing is ongoing, and we do solicit donations from our community, both inside and outside the house. Our village has been so supportive, from Day 1, at all levels, and we are so appreciative. Keep it coming, and thank you to all who have contributed, in one way or another. We hope to see you at the Heritage Ball on New Year’s Eve at Freyburg Hall. All proceeds benefit Senior Connections and our mission to enhance the quality of life for the senior citizens we serve.
Looking ahead, we are looking forward to getting all aboard the Schuber Transportation Van to go check out that Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham, on Thursday, Sept. 14.
Outings seem to be what makes our world go round, because they are the most popular program, besides the meals provided. What fun we had going to Bastrop last month. We might start looking at Katy, and go east for a change, to see what we can get into there. What do you all think about going to see a baseball game in Sugar Land, or Corpus Christi, or Round Rock-the AAA leagues-to stay out of Houston traffic? We do have some interested folks, so we just might give it a try, once it cools down some.
Please check out our 2023 monthly calendars on our website: www.srconnections. org for dates and times of the different activities.
