Senior Connections Celebrates October Birthdays

Senior Connections is getting through the month of October with smiles and joy. Senior Connections just celebrated the October birthdays of the month and it marked another milestone, not only for those having birthdays, but for those who have been there watching Helen Onheiser, Irene Janda and Allen Hoelscher celebrate another birthday for the past several years.

Helen Onheiser is still working these days and she enjoys staying busy. Her life today is filled with the joy of presenting interested people with the lively sounds of past polka bands that played music that brought enjoyment to so many people. Helen comes to Senior Connections every Wednesday and enjoys playing Tarock with her sister, Gloria Miksch, and friends Clara Christ and Irene Janda.

Irene Janda was celebrating an October birthday. She is an avid card and domino player that will take you to school and beat you every time, if you’re not ready. Irene is quite active, as she rises before the sun is up, mostly out of habit, and after she has a good country breakfast, she takes off for the Fitness Center in Schulenburg to work out and gets in the swimming pool to walk in the water and stay strong. She inspires our staff and always encourages us to stay active and moving. Her long life is indeed a testament to her words of encouragement.

Allen Hoelscher loves his wife, Jeannette, and lots of people know his name because he is always calling in his rain gauge totals to KBUK and represents the east side of the Weimar area. This is a service to our community that is really appreciated by all. When Allen comes to Senior Connections and joins us for lunch, we know he likes the “heel” of the loaf, so we save them for him. We sure do love to see the Hoelscher’s when they come over and spend some time with us.

Everyone at Senior Connections loves when birthdays of the month are celebrated because it gives all some time to celebrate and marvel at the lives members have experienced. Senior Connections is working on continuing to provide vital services, from providing information, to taking Day Trips that offer some excitement and anticipation, and to providing fun activities for members.
