Senior Connections Celebrates Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

Senior Connections Celebrates Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

Our Mardi Gras Breakfast was a success, and we were ready for a somber meal on Wednesday. What a difference between Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. We went from a day of indulgence to one of humility as we entered the Lenten season.

We really appreciated Ms. Brenda at the Kountry Bakery in Weimar for the wonderful breakfast casserole she provided for us. It was full of potatoes, egg, bacon and cheese. It had everything that makes a breakfast casserole taste so good, and Brenda was so sure that we would love it. She was right, and everyone had a “country portion” of her delicious casserole.

A world-renown chef prepared the other breakfast casserole that we indulged in. Chef Kenny Kopecky, at Edna’s Kitchenette in Flatonia, was so gracious as he delivered his pan of food and gave us explicit directions on how to warm it up. He said, “anything that feeds people and makes them happy” was his pleasure to provide. Chef Kenny let us know that our relationship was just getting started and is excited to know that we are looking to expand our program into Flatonia, too.

Senior Connections appreciates the local establishments for helping work on and live out its mission statement of enhancing the quality of life for the seniors we serve. There were pigs, there was fresh fruit, and there was coffee, tea, and breakfast juice as well, so everyone had a full plate. The best outcome of the day was that there was enough food for everyone to take a plate home with them, along with a 20 oz. cup of Gumbo that Martha Beckmann brought. Everyone was so full from the breakfast, but having your dinner in hand was indeed a bonus.
