Second Graders Show Off Plants at Annual Show
La Grange Elementary held its annual Second Grade Plant Show on Friday, April 21.
The second graders under the direction of their teachers, including Maria Lopez Lugo, began growing their plants several weeks ago. Some of them started from seed and others started with transplants.
“They have to take care of their plants,” Lopez said. “They learn how they grow. They have to identify the parts of the plant. They have to know what the plant is grown for, whether it’s a vegetable, a fruit or flower. They keep track of their plants in a journal and label all the parts of the plant.”
The students’ efforts culminate in the plant show where they get to show off their plants to teachers and fellow students.
The next fun project for the La Grange second graders will be Market Day. The kids will team up to form mock businesses over the next several weeks. These businesses will create consumer products that the students will sell at a Market Day just before school lets out for the summer.
