Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of Feb. 19-25.

Agency Assist

On Feb. 19, Officer Juan Castilleja assisted medics in the 200 block of Heinrich for a 66-year-old male possibly having a heart attack. Officer informed medics and dispatch with information of the location of room in the hotel. Officer stood by while medics conducted assessment before loading him into the ambulance.

On Feb. 22, Officer Chris Kalina responded to the 100 bock of Schultz in reference to an elderly lady that had fallen. Officer assisted EMS with loading patient.

Animal Complaint

On Feb. 20, Officer Byron Powe was waved down in the 200 block of Kallus in reference to an animal complaint. Photographs were taken and forwarded to animal control.

On Feb. 21, Code Enforcement Animal Control Officer Gina Harden was dispatched to the 500 block of Anderson for a complaint about dogs disturbing her by barking. Officer met with complainant and advised her that there is not a city noise ordinance against dogs barking during the day. Complainant advised they do not bark at night since the owners put them in the house. Harden advised she would talk with the dog owners and see if there is something that can be done during the day.

On Feb. 21, Harden contacted a dog owner at his employers in the 200 block of Kallus and stated there are several complaints about his dog, the condition of the kennel, no food, dirty water, feces on ground. Officer explained what she saw and what the issues were. Owner advised that there was food but officer informed him that the self-feeder was closed and that the dog couldn’t get to it. Officer explained about the feces everywhere and the scarcity of clean water. Officer mentioned that if he was unable to care correctly for the dog, officer would accept the dog as a surrender. Officer advised she would be checking on the dog and the conditions.

On Feb. 21, Harden spoke with complainant about conditions and her concerns concerning a dog.

On Feb. 21, Harden arrived in the 200 block of Kallus to find a dog in 6X6 pen and the dirt floor was covered with feces both old and fresh. The water bowl had about 3 inches of clear water with a slight film on top, self feeder was closed shut and no food was evident a the time. The dog looked to be in good condition and there was a covered raised doghouse and pictures were taken.

On Feb. 21, Harden spoke with complaint in regard to a dog and the conditions it was living in. Harden will check on the situation.

On Feb. 24, Harden was dispatched to the 200 block of Kallus to check on a dog. The dog had no water and bowl was dry. Harden carries bottled water and the dog was crying for water. Owner of dog was contacted and they advised they would be rehoming the dog.

Disturbance

On Feb. 19, Castilleja was dispatched to the 100 block of Cardinal Avenue for a possible disturbance in a vehicle. Deputy located the vehicle and spoke with the driver and the passenger and all was fine.

Theft

On Feb. 20, Powe responded to the 400 block of N. Main for theft.

On Feb. 25, Sgt. Tobey McFadden was dispatched to the 400 block of Paulus to the street flee market in reference to a possible theft.

Traffic Stops

On Feb. 20, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Kessler for driving without headlights when required.

Driver advised he did not have a driver’s license and neither did the passenger and the vehicle belonged to one of the individuals mother. Officer advised they needed to have a licensed driver come and take possession of the vehicle.

On Feb. 20, Powe stopped a driver in the 500 block of Summit for running a red light. Driver received a warning for running the red light and a citation for no insurance.

On Feb. 21-Powe stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone. Driver received citation for speeding and driving while license invalid.

On Feb. 21, Powe stopped a driver for speeding in a school zone in the 100 block of Kessler. Driver received a citation for speeding and no drivers’ license. Passenger issued a citation for permitting unlicensed person to drive.

On Feb. 21, Powe stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for speeding in a school zone going 42 in a 25. Driver was argumentative for the duration of the stop and innately refused to sign the citation he was issued until he was advised by refusing to sign he could be arrested. Driver ultimately signed the citation he was issued for speeding in a school zone, but would not provide a phone number for contact purposes. Driver later called and spoke with the on duty sergeant to voice his complaints about the stop.

On Feb. 24, Powe stopped a driver in the 100 block of Bucek for expired registration (3-21) Driver received citations for expired registration and driving while license invalid and no insurance.

On Feb. 24, Powe stopped a driver the 25 block of N. Kessler for expired registration (12-22) driver received citations for expired registration and no insurance.

On Feb. 25-Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for obscured temp tag. Driver received a citation for no drivers’ license.

On Feb. 25, Powe stopped a driver in the 600 block of W. I-10 for no front license plate. Driver received a warning for no front license and illegal tint on windshield.

On Feb. 25, Officer MD Krenek stopped a driver in the 800 block of S. Kessler for speeding. The driver was issued a warning. The driver advised that he and his wife just purchased the vehicle and while driving on US Hwy. 77 he struck a cooler and it was filled with beer and damaged his brand new vehicles right front side. Officer issued a blue form.

Warrant Arrest

On Feb. 23, Officer Chris Kalina arrested an individual in the 600 block of Black St. on a felony warrant.

Miscellaneous

On Feb. 20, Krenek was dispatched to the 900 block of Eilers for two 911 hang-ups. Officer met with individuals that advised all was fine but they had a family argument.

On Feb. 20, Krenek was dispatched to the 200 block of College in regards to a hit and run in the parking lot.

On Feb. 21, Krenek was advised to do a follow up on a nuisance violation in the 1400 block of Kallus. The violator did not comply and clean the debris as required. Officer issued individual a citation for the nuisance violation.

On Feb. 21, McFadden was dispatched to the 700 block of N. Kessler in reference to a stolen license plate.

On Feb. 23, Kalina observed a 4 wheeler on the street in the 500 block of South. Officer issued individual a warning and told him to push the 4 wheeler home and advised if he was caught again it would be towed.
