Schulenburg PD Issues Tickets For Speeding in School Zone
Police Report
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reports on the following incidents his department responded to during the week of Feb. 26-March 4.
Animal Complaint
On Feb. 26, Code Enforcement animal control officer Gina Harden received a text from homeowner advising that she had trapped a momma cat. Officer Harden picked up cat and placed in the pound until Monday morning.
On Feb. 27, Harden took a cat from the previous evening to Dr. Clint Kainer in Flatonia for the City Chamber PAWS program. The cat will be spayed, vaccinated, and clipped.
On March 1, Harden received a complaint from the 100 Block of Schulz in regard to a dog chasing someone.
On March 1, Harden received a text from City Hall about a resident that trapped a feral cat. Officer Harden picked up the cat and took to Dr. Kainer in Flatonia.
On March 3, Officer Juan Castilleja was dispatched to the 1400 block of Lyons in regard to a dog that has been around a house and hiding. Officer Chris Kalina brought a leash to the location and we were able to get the dog leashed and it got up on its own and walked to the patrol car. Dog transported to the pound and owner located and reunited with owner.
On March 3, Harden received a call from homeowner in the 700 block of Baumgarten that advised she had trapped another cat. Officer picked up the cat and took to the Flatonia Vet Clinic to be part of the TNR Program in Schulenburg.
On March 3, Harden picked up a very matted blonde dog and immediately took the dog to the animal shelter in La Grange.
Accident
On March 3, Officer Hailee Vincent responded to the 25 block of N. Kessler for an accident in the parking lot.
Disturbance
On March 4, Officer Chris Kalina responded to the 200 block of Saint John for a disturbance. Reckless Driver
On Feb. 26, Officer Byron Powe responded the 40 block of N. Kessler for a vehicle failing to maintain a single lane. Driver received a warning for failure to drive in a single lane and no signs of impairment were observed.
Suspicious Person/Vehicle
On Feb. 27, Kalina was dispatched to the 300 block of August for a white car with two males pulling on vehicle door handles. Officer did not locate the vehicle or people. Officer later learned it was actually a male on a bicycle and officer believed to know who the subject was. Officer attempted to make contact with the subject but he would not come to the door.
On March 3, Vincent responded to the 400 block of Paulus where complainant advised of a person coming to her front porch between 7 and 10 p.m.
Traffic Stop
On Feb. 26, Officer Krenek, while sitting in the abandoned Dollar Tree parking lot, heard tires squealing. Officer looked in the rearview mirror and observed a vehicle squealing his tires and officer then pursued the vehicle Officer made contact and driver advised his wife lost her phone and told him to stop and he then squealed his tires trying to be funny. The driver was not intoxicated and he was issued a warning for unsafe start from a parked position.
On Feb. 26, Krenek stopped a driver in the 800 block of S. Kessler for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and no insurance.

On March 1, Powe stopped a driver in the 300 block of Kessler for expired registration (1-23) Driver accused the officer of stopping him due to the vehicle being registered out of Brownsville and became argumentative. Driver received citations for expired registration and no driver license.
On March 1, Powe stopped a driver in the 100 block of N. Kessler for speeding going 53 in a 35. Driver received a citation.
On March 1, Powe stopped a driver in the 100 block of N. Kessler for speeding in a school zone going 44 in a 25. Driver received a citation.
On March 1, Powe stopped a driver for speeding in a school zone in the 100 block of N. Kessler. Driver received a citation for going 38 in a 25.
On March 1, Powe stopped a driver for speeding in a school zone in the 100 block of N. Kessler. Driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
On March 2, Powe stopped a driver for speeding in a school zone in the 100 block of Kessler going 37 in a 25. Driver received a warning.
On March 2, Powe stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 100 block of N. Kessler going 39 in a 25 school zone. Citations for speeding in a school zone and driving with suspended drivers license.
On March 2, Powe stopped a driver in the 700 block of N. Kessler for speeding. Driver received a citation.
On March 3, Vincent stopped a driver in the 100 block of Kessler for expired registration (11-21) Citation issued.
On March 3, Castilleja stopped a driver in the 40 block of Kessler for driving without headlights. Driver was issued a warning.
On March 3, Krenek stopped a driver in the 800 block of S. Kessler for a speed violation. Driver was issued a warning.
On March 3, Krenek stopped a driver at the intersection of James and Summit for disregarding stop sign. Driver received a warning.
On March 4, Castilleja stopped a vehicle in the 300 block of Kessler for disregarding a red light. Citation was issued.
Welfare Check
On March 3, Vincent was dispatched to the 200 block of Kessler for welfare check.
Miscellaneous
On March 3, Kalina responded to the 200 block of Kessler for illegal dumping.
