Schulenburg HS Band Receives Superior Rating

The streak continued this past Tuesday as the Schulenburg High School band competed at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading contest in Bastrop. The band made a 1st division (superior rating) in both the concert and sight-reading portion of the contest for the third year in a row (this is the highest rating possible.) For the concert portion of the contest the band prepares three pieces. Two pieces must be listed on the UIL music list, and the third piece must be a march. In sight-reading students perform a piece of music they have never seen before and only have seven minutes with their director to work/learn the music before playing for the judges. To make a 1st division is a difficult task. To do it three years in a row is a testament to the students’ hard work and dedication. Each year students are pusehd to prepare challenging music and push their musical skills and they continue to rise to that challenge and put on superior performances at UIL.
