Schulenburg Class of 1958 Reunites

The Schulenburg High School class of 1958 celebrated its 65th year reunion on Saturday, June 24.

Classmates and guests gathered at Robert’s Steakhouse in Flatonia with registration beginning at 2 p.m. The time before dinner was spent enjoying refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and reminiscing the past. A short business meeting was conducted by Dan Schroeder, the class president. Carolyn Graeter Tobola and LaDell Ohnheiser Freudenberg read notes from classmates who could not attend this reunion. Dan led in recalling old times and remembering the past. Dan led the prayer before the group enjoyed a very delicious dinner.

Classmates deceased from the class of 1958 are: Helen Balcar; Myrna Loy Baumgarten Fleeger; Doris Berckenhoff Berger; James Brossmann; Eileen Cox Smith; Dorothy Beck Doehring; Consilia Christ Ramey; Harvey Florianic; Patrick Fritsch; Elton Kaase; Elroy Kahanek; Edward Knocke, Jr; Mary Ann Korenek Schroeder; Eugene Matura, Sr.; Gertrude Miksch; Max Paul Money; Jimmy Pavlik; Ruby Speckels Cubley; Benjamin Ulrich; Harlan Wagner; Alvin Winkler, Jr.

It was a very special evening, one not soon to be forgotten. A total of 25 guests attended. Thirteen classmates and guests were able to join in the celebration, as follows: Elgia Florianic of Houston, LaVerne (Friedrich) Schneider and husband Gale of Yoakum, LaDell (Ohnheiser) Freudenberg and husband Gene of Georgetown, Dan Schroeder of Wimberly, Rosalie (Ulrich) Fryer of Conroe, Bert Warnken of Houston, Arline (Dieringer) Ulrich and husband Elmer of Schulenburg, Carolyn (Graeter) Tobola and husband Melvin of Schulenburg, Jeanette (Jurica) Chudej of Schulenburg, Thomas Kainer and wife Vicky of Schulenburg, Elmer Meyer and wife Dorothy of Schulenburg, Edwina (McFarlin) Hutsell of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Gene Vogt and Eileen, Rob, John and Caroline Vogt of San Anonio, Bonita (Boehm) Sales and husband Frank of George West, and, Patsy and David Wagner.

Members of the class unable to attend were: Anita (Anders) Peters, Nelson Antosh, Barbara Bayer, Charlene (Bruns) Meinen, David Heinich, Bernice (Herzik) Ermis, Delores (Kainer) Fritsch, Erwin Kainer, Esther (Zweschper) Kelley, Frank Merrem, Robert Muras, Rennie (Rikard) Kahanek, Dorothy (Roeder) Ulrich, Allen Seifert, Delores (Svetlik) Wick, Mary (Vaculik) Barcak, Evelyn (Matura) Meyer, Barbara (Severa) Hamontree and Dorothy (Lacina) Kainer.

It was decided by classmates to have another reunion in two or three years.
