Sacred Heart Altar Society Met May 6
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, May 6, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard financial reports. Four thank you cards were read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Thirteen ladies attended the meeting.
The Spirituality Report was given by Karen Janda and included reflection on the month of May. This month is considered to be Mary’s month and is a time of Grace and renewal as we celebrate the season of Spring. As we complete the Easter season, we are reminded to deepen our connections with Mary and her son Jesus. Important May feast days were noted. Earline also spoke about the thirty-three days to Morning Glory which is a 33-day consecration to Jesus through Mary.
Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek gave a report on the status of the humeral veil which has been on order for several months and noted that new palls had been received but were found to be of a lesser quality. An additional order of palls of better quality has been placed. Judy Langhamer spoke about flower preparations for upcoming feast day celebrations and Earline reminded members about flower needs for upcoming graduation masses for the month. It was reported that Peggy Sulik and member volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, Earline Trlicek reported on the donations made to the Clerical Endowment Fund for the previous month. Janda reported on two Get-Well cards sent by Emma to members during the previous month and noted an additional card that needed to be sent which she will take care of. A report was given on CEF enrollments sent to two members in memory of their deceased loved ones during the month of April. Judy reported that one funeral lunch had been served during the previous month which was catered by the family and presented the financial report for the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Members were informed of the upcoming work week at Second Chance for Sacred Heart and encouraged volunteers to help out especially during this scheduled week as help is always needed.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that there were no new members at this time. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record. The Rural Life Mass will be held August 20, at St. Mary’s in Taylor.
Under unfinished business, Langhamer spoke about attending the Convention held in Round Rock on April 15-16 and thanked members for sending her as a delegate. She gave a report on the ECCW Deanery meeting held in Rockdale at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on April 23. Earline noted that the cordless vacuum for church cleaning had not yet been purchased and that options were still being considered.
Under new business, members discussed a gift for Father Brian on the anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood on June 3. Volunteers were requested to host the upcoming social after Mass on June 16 sponsored by the Altar Society. The date of the upcoming ECCW meeting for July was reported to be July 23 with the meeting to be held in Brenham. Raffle tickets were made available to anyone wanting to purchase some during the meeting. Since the Altar Society does not meet during the summer months, the next scheduled meeting will be in September. Members agreed to move that meeting to Sept. 9 to allow for the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 2.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 9, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
