Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, May 1, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer, and assistant treasurer. Thirteen ladies attended the meeting.

There was one note of thanks received and read to the group from the family of a deceased member expressing thanks for the Spiritual Enrollment Under the Spirituality Commission, important dates to remember were noted and members were reminded that May is the month of the Rosary. All were encouraged to pray the rosary especially during the month of May and to try to participate in the leading of the rosary before Mass lead by the Living Rosary Circles. The Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek thanked everyone who assisted in the Easter and Holy Week preparations. The flower committee Peggy Sulik and Altar Society volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.

Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha reported on the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the month of April. She also reported sending two get well cards to members in need. Barbara Schellberg reported on the Spiritual Enrollments sent to two families in remembrance of deceased loved ones. There were no funeral lunches served during the previous month and no changes to the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women.

Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that one new member had been approved by Father Brian. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.

Under unfinished business members it was reported that the additional jobs added to the list of duties for the weekly cleaning groups appears to be working as planned. A report was given on the Deanery meeting held in Ellinger on April 25. President Janda expressed her thanks to everyone who helped out with the social on April 16 which also commemorated Father Brian’s birthday.

Under new business, ideas about a gift for Father Brian in celebration of his Ordination Anniversary was discussed. The July ECCW meeting will be on July 25 in Giddings. Members were reminding that this was the last meeting until September and it was decided to delay the September meeting one week in order to avoid meeting on the Labor Day holiday. Marian made an appeal for donations from members to help with vacation Bible School. A list of needed items will be published in the bulletin and monetary donations are also welcomed.

Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
