Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Feb. 6, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer, and assistant treasurer. Nineteen ladies attended the meeting.
Nine thank you notes were read for remembrances received during the previous month.
Under the Spirituality Commission, chairperson of the Church Commission, Debbie Greene provided a reflection read by Karen Janda on the Passion of Our Lord and the Season of Lent. Important dates to remember include Ash Wednesday, Friday Masses followed by Stations of the Cross services during Lent, and the upcoming Lenton mission. The Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek reported that a Liturgy Meeting was scheduled to finalize Lent preparations. The flower committee chairperson, Judy Langhamer reported that the 2023 flower list was completed and made available for distribution. A notice will be posted to request that flowers be left on the altar until the following Friday to have them available for weekday Masses. Peggy Sulik and Altar Society volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha gave her report on the donations to the Clerical Endowment Fund for the months of October through January.ShealsothankedMark Novak in the Parish office for his handling of the CEF enrollments during her absence. Barbara Schellberg reported on the CEF Enrollments sent by the Altar Society to members who had lost loved ones during the previous month and to two members celebrating over 90 birthdays. Judy Langhamer informed members that three funeral lunches had been served during the previous month and gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Anna Boyd informed members that Sacred Heart volunteers are scheduled at Second Chance during the week beginning March 7 thru March 13 and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that several membership applications had been sent to prospective members however, there were no new members at this time. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business Trish Pechal gave her report on the audit of the books held in January. Judy Langhamer gave a report on the ECCW meeting held in Brenham on Jan. 24 noting that the Convention will be held in Austin on April 17-18. Janda thanked and recognized those who made candles available in the Narthax in honor of Candlemas Day during the weekend Masses of Feb. 4-5. She reported that the 2023 membership rosters were available and thanked and recognized Debbie Greene and Earline Trlicek for putting them together.
Under new business, members were informed that the Bakeless Bake sale will be held in March. Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed.
President Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, March 6, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
