Sacred Heart Altar Society Holds Meeting on Sept. 11
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Sept. 11, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer, and assistant treasurer. Sixteen ladies attended the meeting.
There was one note of thanks received and read to the group from the family of a deceased member expressing thanks for the Spiritual Enrollment and a verbal thanks was heard from a member.
Under the Spirituality Commission, important dates to remember were noted. Marion Tajchman volunteered to serve as the new spirituality commission chair. The Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek reported on the ongoing duties of the cleaning groups commenting that she continues to monitor the water fonts at all the entrances after weekend masses. She also informed members that she and Gracie Fucik will monitor the cleanliness of the cloths on the tables on and around the altar and that new palls and candles for Candle Mass Day had been ordered. Flower committee chairperson, Judy Langhammer reported that the flower groups continue to provide flowers for the altar on a weekly basis and Marian ensures that they stay fresh and presentable for the altars. Peggy Sulik and Altar Society volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha reported on the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund during the months of May thru September. She also reported sending three get well cards to members in need. Barbara Schellberg reported on the Spiritual Enrollments sent to various members in honor of over 90th birthdays and to one member in remembrance of her deceased mother. There was one funeral lunch served since the previous meeting which was catered by the family and Judy also gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Carol Svrcek informed members that Sacred Heart volunteers are scheduled at Second Chance from Oct. 3 – 9 and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that three new members had been approved by Father Brian. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record. Karen informed members that The Rural Life Mass had been held on August 16 at St. Mary Church of the Assumption Parish in West Under unfinished business members Judy Langhammer gave a report on the ECCW meeting held in Giddings on July 25. She informed members that the 2024 convention will be April 15-16 and will be hosted by the Brenham/ La Grange and Georgetown/ Round Rock Deaneries. Our group will be responsible for registration, convention goodie bags and the 50/50 raffle. The next ECCW meeting will be in Fayetteville on October 24 with La Grange hosting the January meeting.
Under new business, a discussion was held about allowing junior members into the organization as an application to join had been submitted by the child of a member. Father Brian was consulted and approved the new member conditional upon approval by the membership. Ladies agreed whole heartedly to approve the membership and welcome other junior members into the organization.
Karen informed members that Sept. 24 is Priesthood Sunday and members decided to present Father Brian with a perpetual CEF enrollment in recognition and thanksgiving for his service to Our Lord and to our Parish. It was also voted to present Kyle Janda with a $5 CEF enrollment in thanksgiving for his service as he continues to pursue ordination to the diaconate in early 2025.
The Ladies Altar Society members will be hosting the social in the narthex on Sunday, October 8. Trish volunteered to order kolaches and pigs and Earling volunteered to arrange set up prior to the social.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
